the air scoop is self venting, so you don't need to purge the air?

I need to replace my gauge, but I also need to add some chemical while I'm at it. If I understand correctly, I need to shut off all the zone valves, drain the boiler, remove gauge, dump chemical in gauge hole, install new gage, turn water supply back on, and open all zone valves. Is that correct? Will the boiler bleed air out itself? If I kept the zone valves shut during the process, they shouldn't need bled, right?

No they generally need more maintenance and cost more in the long run. They do create a nice warm radiant heat and don’t stir up the dust in the building.
