I can't believe we are almost at the end! I have enjoyed your reading of Chappaquiddick. I actually visited Chappaquiddick with my mother in 1977 when we visited the Cape. We always questioned the narrative and legal shenanigans of all involved after that trip.

So amazing! That would certainly bring the story to life- to be there and ponder… similar perhaps to Dealey Plaza here in Dallas - the location where JFK was assassinated.

@@Jess_Connell I know. I visited Dealey Plaza when I was in Dallas for business. Once I went up to the book depository I just had the feeling that Oswald didn't do it alone! It's important to visit the sites of these tragedies if you can. It can certainly change your perspective!

I'm curious as to what happened afterward to the officials involved. Were they up for re-election or appointment ? I agree Gargan must have touched Mary Jo in the car and knew she was gone. Keogh knows more than she's saying IMO.

I hope that by the end of the book I can come up with a solid belief one way or another, but we'll see. I have enjoyed it immensely, thank you. (Jess, do you have any interest in Bonnie and Clyde, because of where you live if for nothing else? Just wondered because Jeff Guinn's Go Down Together keeps playing in my head even now, years after reading it. I regret not searching out some B & C spots when I was in Dallas-Ft.Worth 20 years ago. I've often wondered, if Ted Kennedy was as drunk as I believe him to be and he was as rattled and unaware as he claimed to be after the accident...How was he able to swim across that channel to the mainland and get back to the hotel ? That channel had to be rough & it was dark. I think a very good swimmer would have been challenged in those dangerous conditions. Ted Kennedy claimed to have trouble getting out of the sunk vehicle. He was wearing a corset because of his back if I remember correctly. How did he make it across the channel alive by swimming with those being the conditions?

These questions are entirely valid. It’s almost impossible to square his posture the next day with having Escaped an accident the night before, And it’s almost impossible to square confusion with his actions for the next day. None of it matches what it would actually look like if it was the case.

I don't believe he swam the channel back to mainland and walked to the hotel. He went back to where someone could drive back to hotel over the bridge. He couldn't say that as it would implicate the person in the big and complicated cover-up. It's hard to know if he cared at all about what happened to her. He cared only about himself.

I just looked up the average water temperature for Chappaquiddick in July. Per the websight the average surface water temperature is 66°F in July.(peaks in August at 69°F) It reminds people to bring their wetsuits. Thats cold for swimming. It would be even colder at night. 💨

@@oonaghmarguerite6752 and the pull was strong. Having lived in/near the cape his whole life though it could easily be the case that the temps wouldn’t phase him… IDK. To me that’s very cold, but the bigger concern would be how a man who had been drinking, then in a car accident, then wore himself out trying to dive down to get back in, then walked 30 mins, and also it’s the middle of the night… How THAT guy swims the channel. 🤔

@Jess_Connell That boat story makes more sense to me.... I don't think he could have made that trip swimming.. I don't know if it picked up a female who worked for the Feds! My gut tells me it did pick up Him. This thing smells nastier than when I read thru it the first time!

She was not. Rosemary’s bag was in the car so she was initially misidentified. She was only properly identified by Ted Kennedy’s statement to police the next morning.
