There is no DJ in the UK, possibly the world that gives so much information, so much collected knowledge and so much love for their work, then this legend. Sir David Rodigan has truly fed my passion for reggae and helped it grow. I love hearing reggae artists from all around the world shout him out in their song. KING RODIGAN

I've never hate on Rodigan. I have nothing but big 100% respect for the man. His love for reggae is bonafide genuine. All those years ago when he started, did he knew he was going to get knighted? No, he didn't. His reggae knowledge is immense. The man met the legends in person, the stars, the producers, the sound operators. The fact he's white is irrelevant. He, along with Tony Screw's Downbeat and U Roy's Sturgav are keeping reggae alive. Nuff respeck, Roddy!
@aaronUK20067 жыл бұрын
56postoffice he's not been knighted...has MBE but is often referred to as a Sir. He nearly declined the MBE at that, he only accepted it on behalf of all citizens of Jamaica.

How'd u like Soul Syndicate+King Tubby+Dennis Brown+Steven Marley?!? I love how he mixes the the history with his love for the music. I only found him last year, yet have been listening to these genres for nearly 20 years. There is no other music like this. None. So now he goes from my favorite King tubby+Jacob Miller to Bitty McClean ... We are fortunate to have such easy access to this. Nothing nurtures my spirit quite like reggae music. Cheers.

Rodigan played Dublin around the same time as this BR, in Twisted Pepper and I'm enjoying this (i.e. watching at home) more than I enjoyed being at the gig. It's a unique experience, a Roddy gig, with its pros and cons. Like any reggae sound system event with the soundclash formula, the stops and starts break your concentration but with Roddy, the constant pull ups and monologues make you feel like there's more talk and silence than there is music. Also, you're dancing..then you're standing around..then you're dancing again. It gets a bit wearying after an hour. On the plus side, there's some great stuff in the stories, the music (when its on) is fantastic and there's the joyous sight of this fat speccy old geezer leaping around to reggae, doing what most young DJs dream of still doing in their 60s.

I was reading some of these comments and anybody with sense should David radigan is a good entertainer not really a selector now coxsone was not hating on radigan he was just putting him in his proper place because he is not a godfather for reggae in England it was very disrespectful for those bigger heads in Jamaica to reward him a honour that he doesn't deserve that's all
@vmanv14167 ай бұрын
He never said he was a godfather of reggae but a gateway, a door so to speak to open up for all, the power of reggae and to share the sounds of Jamaica and his love his passion his pride. He is a funny little fella but he is the best in his craft and he respects everyone and doesn't think he is above or better than anyone even tho he kill a sound boy fi dead lol he is an ambassador and loves the Jamaica people as much as their music. Nothing but love and that's facts, hate him or love him he is a legend. From the age of 13 I've been listening to Mr Rodigan, now 43 and I still 1 foot skank sipping pon me rum listening to rodigan and all the old and new sounds 💃🕺🏿 I'm a junglist at heart ❤️

How can Coxsone hate on RamJam?? The man's passion for reggae music & culture is clear, listen to his opening speech keenly. He humbly acknowledges that he's merely a selector & pays homage to all the UK sound systems, including Coxsone!! & this was in 2011!! Jealousy & bitterness never a good thing!
@sonidelitepowell70317 жыл бұрын
Zimbox TV it's not about his passion it's about the deeper meaning of exploitation and 'others' claiming what's rightfuĺly ours and then giving no true recognition for the founder's and warriors of today keeping the genuineness of Reggea going.
@zimboxtv7 жыл бұрын
That may be true in general terms but those accusations specifically against Ram Jam are unsubstantiated. That's my point, by all means be angry about cultural misappropriation but the argument is lost when you attack the wrong person & use derogatory language in the process. Unacceptable! Both Coxsone & Rodigan have advanced the cause for reggae in the U.K. albeit in different ways. Rodigan didn't award himself any awards & neither did he call himself king of anything - he never would. So the rastaman's accusation is based on a lie & I can't respect that. Personally, I learn a lot more about Jamaican music & culture when I tune in to a Rodigan session or attend a dance than when I go to some of these Jamaican bashment parties or soundclashes where it's pure fuckery. Screaming obscenities into the mic, daggering BS & where the music is more hip hop than reggae. So just being Jamaican born doesn't necessarily guarantee authenticity. There's no doubt about reggae's origins but the music transcended Jamaica decades ago. Personally I don't see how that is a problem. If Rodigan never existed Coxsone & the 500 sounds that he claims to represent will still be exactly where they are today. There's no need to compete or compare, same mission different platforms. Black culture has been misappropriated for decades & I could give you a 100 names of people who've 'stolen' from reggae but Rodigan's name is not gonna be on that list. You Coxsone & I know that Rodigan is not a parasite, so does many reggae legends & fraternity who have endorsed & validated him over the years. It's a personal thing with Coxsone & unfortunately it reflects very badly on the rasta!
@stretchmc7 жыл бұрын
fair point boss but Coxsone too had some good points... the revolution that is Reggae & the heroes of Jamaican music should be bigger than average pop icons. But Babylon is burning and unity is the key!!
