I was raised in Boise. My parents moved there in about 1948 after the end of WWII. My grandparents lived in Parma Idaho. I graduated from Borah High School. I left Boise in 1965 and moved to Bellingham, Washington to finish college. I ended up in Canada as a school teacher, married and lived in northern Alberta and am now retired in Kelowna, B.C. For many years I traveled to Boise regularly to visit my parents, cousins and uncles and aunts. So I kept in touch with family from Idaho. It has been almost 20 years since I have returned to Boise, but from the sixties to the 90s I was a regular visitor to Boise. I still have a cousin living in Boise and two just across the border in Oregon. I miss the visits. I thoroughly enjoy the videos as they bring back many memories, but it is obvious that Boise has changed dramatically since I last visited in the 90s.

Nice tour of the city of Boise. The capital of Idaho is surrounded by small towns, like Meridian and Eagle, that originally were agricultural communities. These towns now are the base for expansion of the Boise metropolitan area because there is ample farm land for development. If transplants from large cities want a few acres, not just a lot, it is available to them, with local shopping malls with all the services they had in the cities from which they emigrated. The metropolitan area has a population of 750,000, three times that of the city of Boise.

Boise is centrally located if you enjoy outdoors activities. It’s been 10 years since I left but the Boise river runs right through town and is parkland on either side for much of it. Bike and walking paths and a shuttle bus that can take you and a rented raft a few miles upriver from where you can float down back to your starting area. Whether you like boating (Lucky Peak Lake) snow skiing, white water rafting, hunting, fishing or off-roading/dirt back riding, all are a very short drive away. Eagle is where a lot of the money is. Two negatives are lack of diversity and the fact that the area is home to the world’s slowest drivers.
