1:29 such a realistic approach to relationships that I wish more people had, like fuck it's not about someone being perfect for you, it's not about love at first sight, or any of that crap, it's about two people saying they care about the other person more than they do about themself and putting up with each other's bullshit

And yet what you just said - "caring about each other more than they do about themselves" - is a pretty high bar in its own right that many relationships never meet.

very unhealthy mindset, loving others is part of loving yourself. “putting up” with some peoples shit leads many to stay in abusive relationships and failing ones too. If the bottom line of why you’re with someone is fear, (that true love isnt real, no one else will love them, its their “best chance” at a relationship, fear of loneliness, etc) it isnt a good reason.

There are about 6 levels that "Bones" joke works on. I mean... it's no "neigh way Jose," but it's damn close.
@rominaabadi2 жыл бұрын
Can you explain? I don’t get it on any level.
@raggedyanarchist2 жыл бұрын
@@rominaabadi Yeah, I'd love to! Okay, so Mr. Peanutbutter is excited to watch "Bones" because he's a dog and he likes bones, but Dianne thinks he's going to be disappointed because presumably "Bones" in their universe is just a procedural drama, much like in our universe. Of course, later you see PB watching it, and it's more along the lines of the fun show about bones he'd anticipated, complete with a voice that's pretty recognizably supposed to be Bones Brennan saying "TO THE BONESMOBILE!" So... it's a cute-but-not-hilarious little throwaway gag -- that is until you're watching the credits and Zoey Deschanel's name pops up. Zoey Deschanel is the sister of Emily Deschanel who plays the title character on Bones. So basically, Zoey Deschanel's one credited role on BoJack Horseman was just to tease her sister in a background gag. Also, not exactly part of the joke, but still hilarious to note is that Emily Deschanel's costar on Bones is David Boreanez.

1:29 is great the first few moments, but "If you're lucky enough to find someone you can halfway tolerate, you sink your nails in and you don't let go. No matter what." is such a Bojack take that should NOT be taken as serious or healthy advice. It is *absolutely* true that nobody else will "complete" you, but that means you have to put in the work to be a better person to yourself by working _on_ yourself. Not sink your claws desperately into other people until you're just as cold and bitter as you would be on your own. You do the work so you won't be cold and bitter on your own, so you can be with others and be _likable_ to begin with. Settling is debatable. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But don't drag others down with you if you don't have a good enough relationship with yourself to be decently fair and healthy to others. That's a Bojack move that messes both you, and others up I feel.

About him convincing that girl to marry the other one.. I think that was wrong of him because if she had to question it then maybe what she really needed was time to think, not a sob story Bojack projects on her.
@code88254 жыл бұрын
I mean sure, maybe they do need time to think about it and things like that- I’ve always thought that if I were to marry somebody, I’d need to live with them for probably at least a decade, you really can’t rush into those kinds of things. That being said though, I think Bojack was right. I don’t think you can wait for somebody who “completes” you, because I don’t think that’s how people work. I don’t think you just find one individual person and they become your whole world and the centre of your life and nothing could ever be the same without them- it might feel like that in times of intense love, but we’re adults here, let’s admit it- that’s not how love is most of the time. People need more than just one person to feel fulfilled or “completed”. They need to feel like they’re doing something in life, that they’re making meaningful, positive change- you can’t expect your significant other to be fulfilled completely and solely through you, they’re going to want to have friends, express themselves creatively, maybe try and feel productive and feel like they’re making positive change (I think they did well exploring this theme with Diane) and that’s OKAY, you can still love somebody without this weird sort of spiritual idea of love that we have in our society a lot of time. Anyways, sorry- that was just my personal read on the scene and some of the themes, maybe you totally disagree, people mean different things when they say “find somebody who completes you” but when I’ve watched that scene I have interpreted it as the woman having anxiety about marrying somebody who she DOES TRULY LOVE (I think that’s important to note) but she’s just not sure if what she is feeling is this magical, impossible idea of “love” we’re always sold in our media and culture. I always liked the scene because of that, I have often felt sort of pressured into a certain idea of romantic relationships from our media and things, so I liked the show taking what I felt was a more realistic approach, not just in this scene, but with a lot of the relationships in the show
