I love how this show seems to show redemption and bettering yourself as an actual complex problem. They don't sugar coat it showing you'll have highs and lows and how easy it is to slip back into old habits. The latest season seems to even be showing that even if you do change the people you hurt don't owe you forgiveness and your past actions may scar people for life. That you don't suddenly change and everything works out, life will throw shit at you and tempt you to go back to your old comforts but you have to stick with it. It is probably the most grown up message I've seen from a show in a long time and it comes from one starring a talking horse man!

I've never seen a show with such a realistic representation of depression. It hits close home and even though Bojack is a really toxic and terrible person, it's hard to hate him because deep down we all can relate to Bojack in some ways. It's easy to call him arrogant, narcissistic and selfish but that's only the surface. Deep down he hates himself, has no self-esteem and never learned to deal with issues properly or to talk about them. And his depression and his quest for a little bit of happiness absorb so much energy from him he cant deal with other people's problems too. He has a childhood trauma that's still haunting him, he tries to hide his vulnerability from others and himself and all he wants is to be happy. But no matter what he does and how much praise he will get, his heart is like a black hole that absorbs all happiness and leaves nothing behind. Depression is like living as a black hole every day and it's hell. And the hardest part is to find a way to get out of it

"Not What He Seems" gave me anxiety, absolutely one of the best episodes of anything. Check out Hunter x Hunter if you have any interest in anime, it's a pretty incredible experience even if it gives some people a "generic" impression during the first few episodes.

I think the show was wrapping up anyway, because it is coming to a natural conclusion. Plus the last season is 16 episodes instead of the usual 12, so maybe Netflix gave them extra time to tie up all the loose ends. Any show with continuity should end between 50-80 episodes, we wouldn’t want them beating a dead horse (did you get it? Did you get my joke?)

MinniKND we didn’t ever think about it until the last few seasons but this is some selfish shit, that Bojack was constantly dependent on Diane to tell him his life wasn’t broken not only did it do him no good but it also put so much unnecessary responsibility on Diane and definitely led to her resenting Bojack for the role he played in her life

The haunting thing about this show is that it starts off as a goofy, cartoon show on the surface with over-the-top premises, and then gut-punches you with real issues rooted in a reality outside of the outlandish cartoon world it is set in. You don't need to entirely relate to a character for it to have meaning; there are, after all, only a limited number of talking horses with substance abuse problems in the world. You relate to every character to an extent, perhaps not even because you have faced the same issues yourself, but in them you see a fellow human with their own, real problems. I guess it makes you empathetic for them. The bad things that someone does doesn't discount the bad things that happen to them. And unlike most shitty people, the characters on the show recognise their flaws and eventually try to work on them. I guess that gives you a tiny amount of hope that people can change for the better.

The most relatable line I've ever heard from bojack horseman for me personally was from the "Free churro" episode. Its where bojack describes when they were shooting a scene for Philbert with a motorcycle and he had fallen off the building, almost dying. and he said something like "And you know what I thought while I was falling? I thought, "They're going to regret not being better to me" I mean who is 'they'? And wow thanks for that brain." I've struggled with suicidal thoughts throughout my life, and there's always this voice thats like "Everyone's going to regret not treating you better while you were still alive." And it makes me feel so horrible and selfish every time I think that

I can relate to bojack on how he feels like crap every day and I can relate to how he doesn't understand how some people can wake up in the morning happy and eager for the day, How can you wake up happy and eager for the day if you're life is not the way you want it to be? It's probably easy for some people to be happy practically every day if you're ABLE to make it fun and exciting but that isn't the same way for everyone. It's not easy to wake up happy and eager every day when you currently don't have the power to make it better, When you're expecting it to be the same old boring unexciting day.

But im glad they didnt romanticise depression and pain and torment, and instead made it so real you realise everyone is alone and there is no such thing as a “happy ending”. here after show is over I dont even know how to feel this show went beyond anything i could have imagined to see on television. The amount of emotional depth and the consistent motifs and themes that stayed true throughout the entire show’s run is astounding. This show constantly built on its messages and never fell into cliche tropes that threatened the message. iMO I think this show showed how nothing and absolutely nothing in life in black and white theres always a layer of complexity to our emotions relationships decisions actions. I try to suggest this show to people but since it's animated, they think it's a kid show. I've learned so many life lessons from every character: I can't blame others for my actions. I have to take responsibility for the people I hurt and abandon. I just wish more people would give this masterpiece a chance.

Such an amazing show. So my dad is the kind of person who just sees that a show is animated, and immediately thinks that it's for kids, including this show. I keep on telling him that yes, Bojack may have its silly, goofy moments, but also has its moments that really hit home and has real, adult themes a lot. "Nobody tells you that when your mom dies, you get a free churro."
