I know they prevented Bojack from having a relationship with Charlotte, I actually like her and her family. They were actually nice people and a very loving family. They were a big relief from Bojack's awful family. Whenever I see a show about a dysfunctional family there was at least some love between them, but when I see Bojack's family, I see no love at all. His parents hated each other and blamed him for their misery.
@Johnlindsey2897 жыл бұрын
I agree man and nothing is wrong with interspecies romance eh? Charlotte and Kyle love each other for who they are and not what they are as appearances, race and species doesn't matter. Same for Regular Show on Eillen and Rigby whom one is a mole person and one is a raccoon person even Margaret's parents whom one is a human man and one is a humanoid anthro bird woman plus Vastra and Jenny on Doctor Who whom one is an alien like lizard humanoid lesbian woman married to a human woman, i'm proud they made these couples. For example i'm reading a story series where a human man romances Minerva Mink (remember her from Animaniacs?) and nothing wrong with two sapient mammal beings who are consenting adults and can marry in their universe/world and can produce half-human half-mink babies. Plenty of interspecies romance like Roger and Jessica Rabbit, Hepzibah/Corsair in Marvel comics (human space pirate who is Cyclop's dad and alien furry skunk cat lady), Lilandra/Professor Xavier (alien bird woman and mutant), Howard The Duck and Beverly Switzler in Marvel comics (interdimensional Duck anthro person and human woman), Cheetah/Batman on Justice League, Star Trek, Star Wars, Babylon 5, Alien Nation, Catherine/Vincent in the 80s Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton starring Beauty and the Beast TV show, Hellboy/Liz Sherman, Goliath and Eliza on Gargoyles, Vinnie and Charlene on Biker Mice from Mars, Tankgirl and Booga, Farscape, Mass Effect, Nick and Judy in Zootopia, Arwen and Aragon, Inuyasha and Kagome, Hani and the Wolfman in Wolf Children and more. It's like Prince Lir in The Last Unicorn (movie and book) once said when he was told about the lovely gal Lady Amalthea's secret since she is the gal that Lir had been courting/dating/romancing is really a humanized unicorn "Unicorn, mermaid, sorceress, gorgon, lamia, gargoyle, vampire, werewolf, elf...no name you could give her would surprise or frighten me, i love whom i love" and it's one of my fave quotes. And do you know what he meant by it?

Hattonslayden does amazing beautiful artworks of human males romancing Xeno (alien folk), mutant and anthro females, he's a talented comic artist.

Charlotte's photo is at the house that bojack imagined in his drug trip, further alluding to the fact that it's in his mind. To top it off, horsin around was established as bojacks safe space during season one, so it makes sense that he resorts back to a sitcom to process the immense amount of distress he has just been caused within the space of a sitcom intro

It conveys crucial bits of information in a ludicrously catchy tune, and it manages to systematically crush your heart while making you laugh at the same time, in true Bojack fashion. This is why the show is so spectacular. Any other show would have rounded off the season with bojack hooking up with Charlotte. This show spits on other shows, it screams at you that that is not at all what life is like, it grabs you by the expectations and throws you over its shoulder. Not only is his life not a happy sitcom (and nor will it ever be again), but the happy sitcom happened already with her while he wasn't around! He missed it! This song is this perfect, painful twist of the knife that the happiness is always somewhere else and it'll never be with you. There isn't any other show like this one, and if there was, this one wouldn't properly work! It's a truly unique gem, champion of satire and i'll preach it till i die.

Adam Halley-Prinable I totally agree. One of Bojack's problems is that he thinks life is like a sitcom where conflicts are easily resolved and zany schemes work. Unfortunately he's wrong, in real life some conflicts take a harder time to be resolved and those zany schemes are more likely to fail than one would likely expect. For example, during his time on Horsin' Around, Bojack turned his back on his old friend, Herb, to save his own career. Twenty years later, Bojack tried apologizing to a cancer-ridden Herb who refused to forgive him for abandoning him long ago. Which was especially sad because earlier in the episode when Bojack came by to visit Herb his visit had a rocky start, but they were able to bond again, and Bojack almost made peace with him until he demanded Herb's forgiveness. Another example was in season 2, when Bojack and Kelsey, the first director for the Secretariat movie, wanted to get a shot for the movie but Turtletaub didn't approved. So Bojack convinced Kelsey to take the shot anyway behind his back, and when they did not only did Turtletaub still refused to let the scene in the movie but he fired Kelsey, proving that their scheme was all for nothing. The moral is don't expect things that happen on television to always work in real life.

I like how the show gives you expectations because you've seen how things are in other shows. Charlotte is the long lost love and he has this idealized view of her-and then it really hits you the episode where she says, "I lived in Maine for a month 30 years ago" Bojack had this entire fantasy around her and the audience begins to believe it too but like. Charlotte's real life reflects reality. I can't articulate my thought as well as you do but I agree, basically! Love this show.

I love that Charlotte and Bojack are foils, and their story pinpoints the exact reason Bojack is so miserable. Charlotte thought about what would make her genuinely happy long term, and made the choice again and again not to jeopardize it for temporary happiness; while Bojack is the exact opposite, he just assumes he is bound to be miserable and long term happiness isn’t feasible so he constantly chases short term satisfaction with no regard for the consequences for himself and the people around him. Not saying a family and kids is what will make everyone happy, or that that alone will make you happy at all, just that Charlotte knew it would make *her* happy. The long term happiness can look like anything, In the end, its unlikely Bojack would be happy even if he *did* get the idealistic dream life and family he wanted with Charlotte, because the problem is himself.

I love how the song portrays Charlotte and Kyles relationship. For Kyle it’s: “He Loves his wife and there’s Nothing you can do!” While for charlotte the song just says: “…And Charlotte’s married to Him!” But of wishful thinking on Bojacks behalf, That Charlotte is just married to Kyle, no mention as to her feelings in the relationship, because in Bojack’s mind, Charlotte SHOULD love him, and Kyle is just an obstacle.

This episode starts off relatable. I think we've all had something like this happen to us at least once.There someone you really like but when you finally summon the courage to make your move or your free to do so only to discover they're already taken. It sucks and this song perfectly captures that knife in the heart feeling when it happens. However, the show quickly stop being relatable as we watch the very unhealthy and even predatory way Bojack handles it. Healthy people accept the loss, wish the person well and move on. They don't get weird and creepy about it like Bojack.

Everyone likes to talk about the final incident with Penny, but they always ignore that Bojack's chief sin was inserting himself into Charlotte's family in the first place, obviously attempting to push her husband out of the picture so he could take over. He didn't groom Penny to sleep with him, he groomed her to be his surrogate daughter. It's just as sick, but much more sinister.

I like to think that this intro is actually Bojack struggling to process Charlotte's life without him by using sitcoms as a coping mechanism. It's pretty dark if you take away the music and realize he's scanning over their family photos and making internal biases about them. Such as Kyle being an obstacle between him and Charlotte or Penny's main trait being that she's a high schooler. The song also introducing Trip last, and not even by name but as Penny's brother, demonstrates how little he cares about him.

"He loves his wife and there's nothing you can do! Kyle and The Kids! Nothings gonna be alright, be alright, oh no!" Those horribly bleak lyrics juxtaposed by the over the top upbeat sitcom style song. Fuck this show was amazing 😂😂
@jamesb19886 жыл бұрын
Just another example of how great this show is...not many want to admit it, but pretty much everybody at some point in their life has had to deal with feelings for someone that was already married/in a deeply committed relationship. Not the "Just gotta bide my time until they break up with their BF/GF, could be next week!" more like the "Oh god, this person and I will never be together and I don't want to admit it." AND THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO! 😂

I love the implication here that Kyle would be the main character in this story even though he’s mostly been a background character 😅

Que A actually Penelope is a pretty normal name. I know a couple Penelope's that go by penny.
@DashingSteel7 жыл бұрын
Notice that when the singer says "Trip" Trip is actually tripping on a photo. If it really was a sitcom, Trip would be the loser-nerd type who always either breaks something and have fix it, but also he would be happy with his life and always joking and fooling around.

Nice to see a human male and anthro female couple! I’m sick and tired of always human women and nonhuman males already like in wolf children, roger and Jessica, Eliza and Goliath, beauty and the beasts, shape of water and more. The gender reverse feels more fresh like here, Margaret’s parents in Regular show, hattonslayden’s art and more getting rid of that dumb double standard “only human women are ok to be with nonhuman males”

Through the episode, I secretly wanted Penny to develope feelings for Bojack. He was a nice older guy who made her feel safe, just like a father figure, but who wasn't exactly a father and could have fun with(after all he still has the mindset of a twenty year older at best). It was understandable. I felt dirty, sad and confused at the end.

Matkie the Historian I felt the opposite. I feared it, but I thought that this show could never be that dark. I was wrong. It was that dark, and darker. But then I thought that he must say no. And he did! Phew, glad that's over. Except, oh shit, now he's all vulnerable, but oh, he's staying strong. Good. Bojack, the door. Oh...
