That's exactly what it always was. He felt obligated to Hope. I think he felt guilty that he allowed himself to fall in love with Steffy under Hope's nose. He couldn't be honest with himself that his love for Steffy had surpassed his love for Hope. He finally realized it in 2023 but it's currently too late cause she's married to someone else. Liam and Hope should have both been mature enough to realize that their relationship had run its course. Everything had changed between them. Hope went against her morals and principles cause she was so insecure about Steffy and for good reason, cause Liam had fallen in love with Steffy. Hope and Liam should have just mutually ended their relationship and let Liam explore his feelings with Steffy and Hope would have continued therapy and find out who she is and who she wanted to be. Ya know, to be fair, Liam shouldn't picked up on the fact that Hope wasn't quite acting right BEFORE she told him she wanted to go skiing. Liam knew she previously had an issue with the pills so he should've been on his radar. For him to be putting the pressure on her to keep it all together and not use a pill under that stress without her boyfriend's support is practically a setup for failure.
