I don't believe that there is love at first sight. It's attraction at first sight and if it's love eventually one could call it love at first sight. Ridge's and Brooke's first meeting was attraction at first sight, and indeed Ridge and Brooke was love after all the things you mention. It's just that, that first meeting was a very romantic moment of the show, one of the most romantic first meetings. so it may seem as love at first sight to many people.

@@greggel Well, I liked that they had this subtle double meaning on their brief conversation, when Ridge replied "me too" to Brooke's "Sorry". So I can understand when people give it significance. At the very least it was significant as the first meeting of an important pair of the show. I also find significant Stephanie's and Brooke's first meeting, which was not important on its own, but important as an "historical" moment of these 2 enemies first meeting.

I started watching this thing back in the latter days of Caroline (but due to the lovely Joanna Johnson's return 18-ish months later), and I never noticed this before: Joanna Johnson and Susan Flannery ("Stephanie") have the same curious grimace / furrowed brow. Looking back and seeing their scene together in this episode, I now think it would've been better casting to have Joanna as Kristen Forrester and Teri Ann Linn as Caroline! (Her "sisterly" scenes with Ridge / Ronn always seemed a little too "flirty"/cringey, even when Teri as Kristen would later come back for visits in the 90s for the occasional wedding.)

Most shows give characters tunnel vision and they are only aware of what's going on along with the viewer.

Excellent episode…that I hope Brooke and Thorne fans watch and UNDERSTAND what THE THERAPIST says to Caroline! Know the truth people! THIS IS THE CRUCIAL episode that the psychologically naive Brooke/ Thorne fans need to know that SUPPRESSION or DENIAL of feelings is a strong psychological defense mechanism shown by Caroline: given that she was overprotected, naive/ betrayal by the love of her life on wedding day; and then traumatized by stranger rape DID TO POOR Caroline; Caroline is the victim people of trauma after trauma and it IS ONLY NOW THAT SHE IS GETTING THERAPY..and thank goodness: this therapist has gotten to the heart of the issue….her suppression/denial of her LOVE , is open and freeing! SO GLAD SHE PROCLAIMED it out loud! But Stephanie was mean to shut her up,, to PROTECT her insane son THORNE, how very sad for Caroline!

On top of all that, which I agree with... The truth is: Thorne, as originally written, and as depicted throughout these early episodes, was guilty of emotional rape. The way he took advantage of Caroline's vulnerability, knowing she was not ready for marriage, biding his time until the date of the rape trial verdict, was/is beyond despicable. The constant, deliberate interrupting of Caroline and Ridge anytime they're alone, without himself (Thorne) or Brooke around to chaperone, the way he is perpetually pressuring her when they're alone, sometimes nonverbally, with all his sweet-talk... always, going on and on and ON about how "great" Brooke is for Ridge, then "Oh, Caroline, you're so beautiful, you're so important to me, *I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT YOU* because you mean everything; you're my life!" It's conscious, it's deliberate, and it is monstrous. No wonder Caroline's always leaving early for the office (where her "devoted" husband still pops in) and coming home late... And Thorne gets away with it! ALL of it! Then much of the same takes place ten years later with Taylor Hayes. ("She's not Ridge's toy! She's MY toy! Gimme!") It's quite maddening.

She is married to Thorne but doesn't love him, so I think Ridge loved Caroline when she married Thorne and I think he has some residual feelings and guilt for how things ended for and with Caroline. I think Ridge and Brooke both fell in love at first sight, I personally do not think he loves Caroline more than Brooke. Let's see Ridge had a lot to consider when he chose between the two 1)Ridge has expressed his guilt about hurting Caroline 2)Caroline had disclosed to him about Brooke hiding the letter, which made him feel robbed of marrying Caroline and writing his wrongs 3) Lettergate, made him doubt Brooke 4) The influence from Stephanie about Brooke being an opportunist 5) The unplanned pregnancy, which he viewed as a trap 6) I am not sure if he knew about Beth and Eric Those were enough reasons not to choose Brooke ... Whereas they were no questions or doubts regarding Caroline, perhaps except she married his brother, when she did not love him. The maths counts in Caroline's favour, if I was Ridge based on common sense not emotions or love or romance or chemistry, I would choose Caroline. It makes much more sense. So the chart topping song about Ridge choosing to marry Caroline is not proof of love, for me, it's more logic. Women are so conditioned to earning love by conducting themselves in an impressionable way for men, I understand why many would root for Caroline. I think Caroline is the depiction of how society has glorified the repression of women. Be a victim, make others happy and be bitter just to get or keep a man. I don't think sexual pemiscuity or fornication is a revolution or liberation for women, however I think Brooke was a progressive character for the 80s.First of all at this point, she was not pemiscous but she was daring. Going to see Caroline, because she knew she could change her life, being strong against Ridge from the start, although she wanted him, going for him when she was ready because she wanted to, refusing to accept many of his living invitations before accepting and being willing to pack and go, at anytime, she felt, she deserves better or more. Not letting people of more money or power scare her. She lives by her own rule book.
