The use of background music for the car scenes is really well thought out. The atmosphere in the car is tense and the music reinforces that. Then, right at the end, when Kevin says "promise", the music changes and becomes calmer as Macy relaxes and lets her guard down (and takes her eyes off the road to smile at Kevin) - and THAT'S when the crash happens out of nowhere, and Kevin screams, literally interrupting the serene music cue. It really adds to the element of shock, much more so than if the music had continued to be tense and dramatic all the time. And the continuous car horn sound at the end also adds to the gravity of the scene.
