Everything Brooke had said about what happened up at Big Bear was spot on. I can understand why Taylor felt the need to defend herself and not let Brooke in on their secret. It is obvious that Brooke is clearly using James to try to take back Ridge and is not romantically involved with him wholeheartedly. Brooke should not have demanded Taylor tell her the truth. Instead if she was any bit decent she would have encouraged Taylor to be honest with Ridge for the sake of her marriage.

Brooke was right when she said Taylor couldn't live hiding something important to Ridge. But she is wrong thinking Taylor could make love with someone else in order to punish Ridge. Taylor having sex with James was not an act of revenge because she doesn't use people. It's more complex than that, but she can't understand.

Brooke calls it "punishment", Stephanie calls it "vulnerability" - but in the end both still meant the same. Taylor had been hurt and upset with her husband's actions and then turned to /allowed someone else to "comfort" her ( _the second kiss with James happened after Taylor had seen the picture in the newspaper_ ) and she had sex with that person .

Blake also scored twice because of punishment/vulnerabilty. - Taylor had to watch Ridge and stepmom Brooke kissing at Pierre's - Blake was allowed to spend the night with Taylor, the morning after Blake asked her if she had no regrets and if the night had not just been a reaction to Ridge's behavior, Blake then bragging that they always had been good in the bedroom (1035) - Taylor had ended her dating relationship with Ridge, Blake got to have sex with her again (ep.1055)

Brooke finally admits (to Reliable Narrator Connor no less) what we all knew: that she is not genuine in her relationship with James and that she's just using him in another desperate play for Ridge. Her obsession with finding out what happened at Big Bear is based on her obsession with Ridge. She's trying to take control of the plot and destroy Ridge & Taylor's marriage just as Stephanie is trying to move the plot in the other direction and keep Ridge & Taylor together. What's interesting too is that Brooke was right when she predicted that the guilt would consume Taylor - it's a rare instance of Brooke accurately narrating the plot and yet it's a "read" that bolsters Taylor's Good Girl credentials.
