Both sides are becoming more aware of each other in the struggle for plot control between Sheila and Taylor (see my posts in episodes 3851 and 3861). At first Sheila had the upper hand - she already suspected (from the encounter in Lance's apartment) that Taylor was hot on her trail and her eavesdropping on Taylor and Amber fills her in on exactly what they know and don't know. But then Sheila makes a (frankly s t u p i d) mistake in threatening Amber. Even though Amber doesn't know it's Sheila, is still confirms that another person is working on Erica's behalf and it's sure to make Taylor tug the rope even harder now that she knows there's a powerful force on the other side. This is another example of how they aren't writing Sheila as clever as they used to. The old Sheila often gained the upper hand on her enemies by snooping and eavesdropping and would never make a mistake like this and surrender that advantage.

@@NewYorkNick0607 exactly (and we're on the same page again here!) - and what's _really_ frustrating is that the whole cIimax of the storyline is built around an equally uncharacteristic move. At the end, Sheila basically gives away her advantage for _no reason_ by confronting Amber, thus check mat ing herself unnecessarily. The writers clearly have lost the ability to portray Sheila as cIever, which is actually one of her _defining_ character traits.

Sheila disguising herself as a nurse, when she actually _is_ a nurse, is just perfect. But Sheila would never show herself to Amber face to face (even with a mask) - it is too risky, and Sheila is much too cIever to take these unnecessary chances.

ITA! Once again we're on the same train of thought (I just wrote something about that too). It's another example that they're not writing Sheila as clever as they used to. I think this is all because of the limitations of the storyline. Because Sheila has to be in the background and can't show her f a c e in town, the only way to have her confront her enemies is to goofy scenes (like with Taylor in Lance's apartment) or reckless scenes (threatening Amber).
