Sorry for the weird delay on this. We got knocked off our schedule this week for a number of reasons, and we ran into some copyright trouble with this ep. Next ep should be up on Wednesday!🎉

Copyright really? LoL/Riot Games media (cinematics, music videos, arcane, trailers, game play, etc) they are notorious for not pressing copyrights claims, however I suspect whatever they don't own the rights of is what's probably causing you issues?, like the imagine dragons song which is probably the only thing I can think of in arcane that Riot doesn't own the rights of. But the footage of the episodes themselves and the rest of the music in it shouldn't be causing problems afaik, unless the company have changed their philosophy on copyrights in recent times after so many years.

From what I've seen , the copyright issues don't come from Riot, they come from 3rd party sharks who claim the sound rights so they can claim copyrights and make a buck. KZbin is notoriously ignorant of these 3rd party "media groups" HAAWK being one of the big ones but there's dozens of others. My own experience is if some 3rd party (not the originator) claims on my video, I file a Appeal and post it anyways. If it's the original Music/Sound owner, I file appeal and wait 30 days like normal.

So for the fungus that grows out of their lab doors: show-wise it doesn't go much more than being creepy looking aesthetic for villain lair. However there is some neat historical referencing here. During prohibition, police where able to find out where hidden illegal distilleries are located by a certain mold that would begin to form in their vicinity. To this day, the main Jack Daniels Whiskey distillery actually has a bit of a problem with it that affects the surrounding town, with the mold appearing on everything from road signs to the outer walls of homes. So bad guys brewing illegal substance, evil glowy mold grows out of their lab. Nice detail.

I think the creeping organism might be an earlier life stage of the glowing purple blooms (ambiguously plant or fungus) from Singed’s cave. He fed them to the mutant creature Rio, causing Rio’s flesh to emit a shimmer-like purple liquid. If cultures of flesh from Rio are the source of the liquid that is refined into shimmer, the refining process could potentially spread spores of the creeping organism. I also think that the creeping organism, and hence shimmer, is linked to the Void, hence the Void-like imagery associated with the Hexcore when/after it is corrupted by shimmer. Shimmer is a glowing purple liquid associated with a high-pitched hollow shrieking sound, and it warps living organisms, whether healing or mutating them, making them fast and/or strong, putting them into a dissociated violent frenzy, etc. Seems like something that would be in the blood of Voidborn.

I love the dialog and character writing in this series. Its so damn good. In this episode Heimerdinger in particular has some amazing lines. For example, when Victor and Heimer are going through Jayces stuff, you can notice that Heimer fully knows its possible to make this tech work. Victor asks if its possible and his answer isn't no, just that its unstable, and when Victor asks if Heimer himself could stabilize it, he replies with "Me? Why would I?". Not a straight no, not curiosity over new discovery, or even disregard for the actual project, just a personal refusal to do it, he COULD stabilize it but he doesn't want to work on it. Especially when you put him in the context of the world, Arcane isn't a 1:1 with Leagues Lore but it is mostly the same. Heimerdinger is a Yordle, they are immortal spirits from a place in the Spirit Realm called Bandle City, Heimer himself is a being of almost pure magical energy and has an innate understanding and domain over magic. He as well as many of his kind choose to stay and live on the physical world ignoring their more magical side, so he isn't a mage or anything close to it but he still understands magic. What he does know for certain is the dangers and the damage it can cause if it gets out of hand, so he tries to kill it before it is born. To him the discovery and progress is second to the risks. A real world comparison I think fits well is Nuclear Science. Imagine you know everything we do about it, Nuclear Power Plants, Radiation, Nuclear Bombs and so on, you're not a specialist but you know its possible and how dangerous it can be. And now put yourself in a world where that hasn't been invented yet. Would you in good conscience let them create it? Yes, there are many advantages but would you risk letting them commit all the disasters as well. Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Chernobyl and the Three Mile Island Incident? Maybe you would maybe not but I think it helps to put into perspective what Heimer is feeling in these scenes.

The town is called Piltover because it was built over the Pilt River, so you were pretty close on the naming convention.

Yeah, one reasonable criticism for this episode is that they didn't do Marcus' perspective justice. Everyone forgets why he's so angry and aggro. Remember, Vi and crew set off a bomb in a residential area and then ran away, killing and/or injuring an unknown number of people. Then, Marcus' boss basically says, "Yeah, we're not going to go kicking in doors and arresting people, I don't want to stir the pot". Marcus, the cop, I think reasonably responds to that with "Wtf do you mean we're not arresting people? The pot doesn't need stirred because they blew it up with a bomb!"

Igual la explosión paso por las gemas que jayce tenía de manera ilegal en un área residencial, y los policías saben eso. Además de que los kirammam estaban financiando esos experimentos. Creo que también vale la pena tener eso en cuenta.

We don't really know why he's so angry at this stage; later episodes do hint at it. But, for an almost background character, he gets a lot of characterisation. I think you'd have a hard time suggesting what should be cut to make more room for his development, bearing in mind that development isn't core to the main story.

The upper city is called Piltover, since it's over the Pilt River. It once was a unified city called Oshra Va'Zaun which focused a lot on trading, since it is situated in the only land path between two continents. But the greed of the traders grew too much and they wanted to create a canal with explosives, sinking half of the city under the ground. The river divides the two halves, and on the poorer half you have a lot of underground levels below the surface, where the air quality is very much affected by the fissure gases.

Marcus's speech is the first example of something the writers slip in more than once: a character basically describing their own issues when they attempt to call out someone they don't like. Straight-up projection.

As to Grayson's motivations. While I like her character, she doesn't necessarily have to have anything more than pragmatic motives towards the undercity. A war may kill more of the Zaunites than it would of her people but there were absolutely Enforcers who got pulverized last time things got ugly.

I wonder how long it will take for them until they realize that this show is not written like other shows, there are no stereotypical characters in there. Fiction conditioned us to see certain plot points and characters and instantly put them into a category like this guy is clearly evil, this person has ulterior motives and so on but the writing in Arcane is so well done that none of that matters.

I personally think that it does have some things that are predictable, I went into it as a LoL player, and my gf as a series-enjoyer, and she predicted more stuff correctly than me, so there is probably some overlap in it. I will say that the execution, although sometimes predictable, is close to flawless when it comes to Arcane

3:49 "if you played the game you know what that is about" actually a lot of people are confused on who that actually may be. As someone that knows a lot more lore than the average player...I can name like 4 people that could've been 🤣I think it is easier to digest if you didn't know the lore because when that happened to me my brain cycled on the implications of what that person was doing in the first place. 10:38 I don't think that is the same guy. It is likely another character named "brand from league of legends" (don't look that up cause it COULD be spoilers next season as next season may have flashbacks or more history). But there are many people in league of legend's universe that it may be. 14:03 Actually it wasn't obvious. Out of all the people I've seen react to the show which is close to a dozen people you are the only one to actually analyze the surroundings of the lowerclass place. Yes it does have deep history of the place. Really impressive statement you said because that is very important; it was like a 200+IQ statement from a quick view of their surroundings. If you look up history of piltover then you would be astonished by what you would find. You would start theorcrafting on what happened pre-arcane season 1. I can tell this will be my favorite reaction for arcane.

Originally I doubted it... But Ryze along with Katarina and Ahri has been Riot's iconic champ. He's the rune mage, and his ult is teleporting specifically. That his skin is not blue? He's a wizard lol... With a human Ryze skin too. After a year, I'm pretty sure it's Ryze. Why would they invent a new rune mage out of nowhere when they have such a large pool of champs to appear in the show, and specifically a rune mage?
