Tsukishima’s brother couldn’t become an ace because of a little giant. Tsukishima compared his brother to himself and Hinata to a little giant. That’s why tsukishima had a sense of inferiority to Hinata and never thought that he would surpass Hinata.

So basically at that time Karasuno was a powerhouse school and had lots of members . I believe You can only have a certain amount of players on the bench and the rest had to go to the stands . This means that Tsukishima's old brother wasnt even good enough to be on the bench . Now this doesnt mean he sucks . It just means that the competition in Karasuno was that fierce at that time .

I'm sure he was, but even in season 1 you see both seijoh and shiratorizawa with members in full team kit on the stands helping with the cheering. So it seems fairly normal for powerhouse schools in Miyagi at least to have absolutely stacked rosters so it stands to reason that Karasuno was in a similar situation when they were at their strongest.

The word play at 11:11 English translation: Volleyball is just a club. Romaji: Bare wa takaga bukatsu. When Bokuto repeated it, he said "Tada no bukatsu" which means the same, he just kinda paraphrased it, then said it sounded like somone's name, and Kuroo responded "Like Tada Nobukatsu-kun" (which really sounded like someone's name because Tada is one of the common surnames in Japan.)

Believe the moment u say about someone teaching the "blocking hand pose" before. It was Kageyama teaching hinata how to block, during Azahi's first game against Karasuno players. And hinata not paying attention, getting distracted by the ACE.

Gonna hold myself back from commenting on genuinely "evil" characters, for now let's just say that the author had their reasons (they spoke about it a lot in one of the recent interviews) :"D But either way, this episode is such a writing masterclass. Really love how they had Hinata, the main character, take a step back, esp with how he (likely unknowingly) motivated Yamaguchi to go talk to Tsukki with his question. Yamaguchi wouldn't have been able to give Tsukki that final kick the captains delivered though, since he simply lacks that experience. And I really love how Bokuto, while being really intense, still says that that's how it works for him, doesn't mean the same applies to Tsukki or that he's wrong with his assessment.

this is what makes Hakyuu different from other sports anime. Many real elements in life that we find, Tsukishima problems we often find in a sports team when there are some of your friends who are not all out for this sport. like me when on the soccer team, i have friends who are not as enthusiastic as i am when playing soccer, usually they don't feel the need to train hard because this is just a normal school sport, they don't want to be too tired, or they don't want to be disappointed with the results although they have tried their best and it is normal. it will change if we get a moment that makes us excited like beating our opponent or being the man of the match in a match. So as Bokuto said, just wait for that moment to come :)

YES. A sport is just a group activity, so some people will be energetic, some others will be thinkers and so on. Of course sport is mainly about energy, but everyone has that something that change your perspective when happens, either in a good or a bad way

Like the others said, there's a limit to how many players, but also staff, that can be on court, so anyone else would be on the stands cheering. This actually nicely highlights that it might be better to go to a lower-ranked school, where you can be a starter, than a powerhouse school that's maxxed out with seniors/second years. Athletes from Tokyo sometimes move to more rural prefectures to do exactly that.

It was Kageyama who did a demonstration of how to block to Hinata in S1, which Hinata was too distracted to see. Also, in true Kageyama fashion, he explains the technique as "do THIS, like THIS" or with sound effects haha Kuroo is one of the smartest characters. So he does explain quite thoroughly; quite an effective teacher.

Tsukishima is the Kenma of Karasuno, The Brain. They are much more powerful when Tsukishima is seriously into play. And the Sun and Moon looks good especially it suits their personalities. Hinata is overactive/ energetic all smiles type that'll remind you of Sunny morning. And Tsukishima is calm and seemingly cold like Late Nights. Tsukishima and Hinata also have what each other lacks.

the thing is that Tsuki's development doesn't go through only Yamaguchi. Yamaguchi worked as a catalyst to create a tiny bit of "pro-activeness" on Tsuki, and that was enough to make him at least ask for help or get interested in learning why everyone works so hard. Before this episode he wasn't even interested in anyone else or their motivation, now he is asking Bokuto how is he so motivated. Yamaguchi is not gonna solve tsuki's problem, but he kick started a possible solution. That is all he needed to do. Yamaguchi was never going to "heal" Tsuki's "broken heart" right there at that moment no matter how much or how long he spoke to him. Thats why i think that Yamaguchi did just enough, cause the one that is going to "heal" Tsuki is Tsuki himself, not Yamaguchi

And that is the beauty of the character writing in Haikyuu. No 1 character especially the main character becomes this messiah to help everyone. Every character changes through multiple interactions and their own self evaluation. Each character has something to give and is inspiring in their own way unlike where only the mc is allowed to inspire others

Very late comment, but Lindsey hit upon a key to Haikyuu success: there are no villains. Even when a character is obnoxious, he's still not a bad guy. This can't work in all shows, but it really makes this one special.

I had the same experience as Tsuki's brother i was very good at volleyball and every friend that saw me said the same thing so i tried to enter the team of my college but everyone was so damn skilled that i had no place in the team not even on the beanch, i was good but not good enough.
