Had a great Memorial Day 5k. Set a new PR 18:32. At the ripe old age of 55. I did it with the help of the dgr community. All the hill workout, track days, stretching,gym days all paid off. Keep up the good work!

QOD- I did not race this weekend, but I did do 7 stroller miles with my Mini-Me. Cliff note version of my story. 6 and a half years ago my best friend passed away from a massive stroke. At that point I took my physical wellbeing into my own hands. I started running at nearly 250 lbs. I couldn't run more than a quarter of a mile without nearly dying. That June i stopped smoking and that July 4th was my first race, a 4 miler. Now today I've lost over 60 lbs, ran 13 half marathons, and training for my first full road, full trail, and first ultra. Losing my friend has become a blessing to my own health. Thanks for your inspiring daily Vlogs, you help me keep moving on the daily.

It was great to participate in this year's Bolder Boulder. Wonderful event. If you haven't yet been a participant, you're missing out on a great experience. I was able to shave over 3-minutes off my 2019 time, and finished 2nd in my 55-year age group with a 42:09. Everything just clicked yesterday. Seth, looking forward to September when I can yell out to you "butter that bread" like I did at the 2020 Pikes Peak Marathon.

Hey Seth! Thank you for the comments at the start of this video in regards to Memorial Day. It can never be said enough the meaning of this Holiday is not about having BBQs. I am a service member in the Army currently stationed abroad in Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. On memorial day, over 1 thousand Soldiers took part in the Memorial Day 5K race (pics on my strava page). I ran in honor of SSG Rodriguez and SGT Reyes who were killed in Afghanistan in 2012. These were two of my Soldiers that never made it home, leaving their wives and kids to pick up the pieces. Their sacrifice and courage will not be forgotten.

QD: I ran BolderBoulder for the 1st time yesterday and happily finished 3rd in my age division. I was intimidated by the net uphill, high elevation course so had modest expectations, but BB displays records of the top 20 finishers in the race’s history for each age, and if I calculated correctly I’ll be #11 once they update it! It’s amazing how what started as a humble local 10K has evolved into such a major event, including the international elite race. The Memorial Day ceremony afterward was touching, but another very moving moment was one of two Ukrainian elite women carrying the Ukrainian flag around the field to the finish. Martha

nice coverage Seth! feeble ilg was honored to be the first person ever to ride/run a Kick Bike (aka; Amish Scooter, Push Bike, etc...it has two wheels but no pedals) from Durango to Silverton (50 miles, 5,800' vert, over two 10,000' passes) during the 50th Anniversary of the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic! I got soooooo much love along the race route! And the final mile finish in Silverton was crazy with spectators and I got so many great cheers and high fives! I remember being in that first Bolder Boulder in '79! I was going into my senior year of HS at Fairview and Roger Briggs our XC Coach suggested we support the race because the race organizers didn't know if anyone was going to show up! 🙂 There were maybe 30-40 participants. I don't know what happened to my race t-shirt, it was gray with black lettering. Oh, and the entry fee was $15 i believe, cuz my parents said that was "way too expensive just to run around town, you do that all the time for free anyway!" 😂 i recall the first time they switched the finish to the CU Stadium, that was crazy cool. Love from Durango!

Qd. I had two this weekend. On Saturday I ran the Black Moshannon 10k, which is a difficult fairly hilly 10k at a local State Park. Then I ran a 3.8 mile race in Boalsburg, PA, the birthplace of the first Memorial Day. That's an old race too, which I assume is why it's at such an odd distance. So about 10 miles of racing for me on this long weekend.

QD: I actually ran BB 10K. Came extremely off of my goal time of sub 34 because I got put in the back wave. Coming from Houston,TX I knew the altitude would play a factor but I was mentally ready to rock and roll. It was super hard weaving through thousands of bodies.

QD: My fiancée and I were meant to run our first Marathon at Edinburgh last weekend, in the memory of my fiancée's dad who passed in October last year. By a twist of fate we had to cancel our trip to Scotland and thus the Marathon as my fiancée had to be admitted to hospital the day before our flight to Edinburgh for surgery. After 4 months of hard training I decided I would still run this Marahton virtually on my own on the port of Piraeus, Greece where we live. Did it zigaging through dense ferries' traffic in 3'54'50 after 4 hours sleep, under an average temperature of 24°C (73 F), finishing the last 5k without any water left in the hydration vest. It was one of my toughest physical and mental battle ever but embraced the pain and am so proud I did it considering the context

QD: EDINBURGH MARATHON on Sun 29 May, I ran a 3:35:07, was hunting for a 3:20 (steady downhill for 10k at start), but the Vancouver marathon 4 weeks ago (3hr38) and Manchester marathon 4 weeks before that (3hr27) sadly caught up with me, but wouldn't change a thing. Qd: I ran my first 12 hour race this weekend. I ended up with 52.5 miles. My goal was 100km but about 4 hours in I realized I was not gonna make that goal due to my knee begins to not work. So I adapted and overcame and set the new goal of a double marathon. That race was really mentally challenging but i like that format because I feel as if I learned alot and was able to push myself mentally even more than physically.

Bolder Boulder 1:03. Missed my “run your age” target of 59, that hill! This is a race for maybe 10,000 people and a party for the other 40,000. Maybe show the unofficial food stations (Oreos, bacon, Doritos, …) or slip-n-slides next year. Trivia: Rick Rojas won the first BB. QD: I have raced my third half marathon and set new personal best, which was 9min faster then last year on the same course. But the aim was to be 10min faster. And I just couldn't do it, but I gave everything I had and paced myself perfectly, my mind wanted to give up(start walking) like 10 times in last 3km but I kept going and finished with only 150 meters walk in the beggining of last km. So I am apsolutely happy and proud of myself for giving everything I had and executing plan perfecly. So the blame falls on the training, have to learn more and train better.

QD: championship Masters (35Y+) this weekend. I had to replace someone on the high jump because he was injured. With brutal force I managed 1,40m and was placed 9th out of 12. Not bad for someone that had not done that for 25years 🙂. I had to run the 4x400m relay (also for the first time - as I'm a long distance runner) and broke the club record for 35Y+... 5:31 52,000, I have never done a race that big. The biggest event I've ever done would probably be the Detroit Marathon, which gets I think around 24 or 25 thousand, in all races; I've only done the 1-mile, 5K, and half marathon at Detroit, I've never done the full.

Wurzburg Marathon 3:25:42. Was aiming for sub 3:25. My GPS recorded 26.49M. Is this usual to have a distance difference that great? Anyone can reply. There weren't many runners so I didn't need to weave much.
@ericpetersen8645
@ericpetersen8645 2 жыл бұрын
Almost guaranteed to run farther than 26.2 given the fact that the course is measured on the shortest route. We often don’t run the exact shortest tangents for the course. The more turns and curves in the course, the farther we will run. I’ve had marathon GPS distances from 26.3 to 26.45…never just 26.2.
@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183
@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 2 жыл бұрын
Corroborating that yes, it’s very rare to be under 26.3 and more typical to be in the 26.4+ range. You’d have to run the shortest measured distance cutting every tangent on every turn to get close, and every small deviation from that adds up over such a long distance. Martha

QD: wasn't a race a such just a half parkrun effort. Was 11 seconds slower than my time the week before, but was a lot windier. Concrete surface and bit of woodlands with longs straights and a couple of hills. Not the quickest course you can run, but a course that will get you strong. My race this week is tomorrow a stacked 5k race, hoping to run quicker than 15:45 for a nice pb. Also 6 of us running from our club Swindon Harriers so extra reason to run well and beat a team mate. And only one way to go into race and that's "go hard or go home" and try and Butter that 🍞 lol

There’s a really underrated Brooks shoe for $100 called the Revel. I think it’s on version 5 and maybe soon 6; whenever it does get reviewed it’s always praised. I’m mentioning it not only is it a really solid shoe, but it’s extremely versatile. It doesn’t feel or look like a “budget shoe”. It’s ideal for travel because it looks really nice, it’s lightweight and comfortable, 8 mm drop (which many runners consider the sweet spot) and works at all paces including being a great walking shoe. I was just conversing with Robbe from BelieveInTheRun about it and he agrees it’s a great shoe that flies low under the radar. There are just too many shoes to review and it’s not a “supershoe” or something super innovative, but it’s a great all-around shoe.

You should have run the race. There's two extremes: Bill Rodgers, who raced ~40 times a year, and you, who could benefit a lot from getting out there more than once or twice in a training cycle. Too much analyzing and not enough going out to "battle'.

Mr. A468 at minute 6:55 has one of the worst biomechanics to performance ratio I've ever seen in a big race. If you think your running form is bad, watch carefully and rejoice ! Hope is the last thing to die .. Anyway, he'd run probably at least a couple of minutes per mile faster than me
