Billy Green is the 2023 New York State Teacher of the Year, 2024 NEA Excellence in Teaching honoree, and the recipient of the 2023 FLAG Excellence Award for Teaching. He teaches Chemistry & Physics and is the co-chair of the Pathways to Engineering program at A. Philip Randolph Campus High School in Harlem, New York. The mission of his work is to create spaces for learning and career pathways that empower marginalized people to feel like they belong in STEAM by implementing practices that are responsive to the multiple identities of the individuals and communities he serves. He is the NYC Subject Area Representative (Chemistry) for the Science Teachers Association of New York State. In 2023, he attained the Math for America Master Teacher II+ fellowship, allowing him to facilitate professional developments for teachers across New York City. In an effort to expand his community outreach, Billy partners with East Harlem community-based organizations (SCAN-NY) to provide sustainable inclusive programming for LGBTQ youth. He collaborates with Opus Dance Theatre, Inc. to develop international Arts in Education camps in Africa that use the arts to create, preserve, and advocate for indigenous cultures. Billy is a member of the NYC Public Schools Chancellor’s Advisory Committee and the New York State Education Department Commissioners. Billy is a candidate for a Ph.D. in Science Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, and has degrees from New York University and Williams College.
