IDK, the altercation at the gas station in Alabama was pretty nerve wracking. I live not far from Alabama, and people there, as well as in hick parts of other neighboring/southern states, really are as insanely fragile in the head as they were portrayed in that challenge. Same goes for people in certain parts of the hoods/ghettos in Washington DC and Baltimore, that I live just 30 minutes away from. You can literally be doing nothing at all that you yourself consider provocative, and suddenly be seconds away from getting jumped/beaten, robbed, stabbed, shot, etc. There are people in those places literally so angry at the world that they are out looking for a fight, and will take any excuse to start one, even something as simple as coincidentally locking eyes with someone that's just looking around them casually is enough... *in an angry tone of voice* "Whatchu lookin' at boi/muthatfucka?!" is usually how it starts, and then they don't let up with the questions/intensity, unless you show (or pretend to show) fear, until finally they do what they intended to the moment you caught eyes with them, which is start beating you up and probably robbing you of something. Coming form experience in these places over the years, the best way to stay safe in hick towns/ghettos is the keep your eyes to yourself, and fixed on wherever you are going/whatever you are doing to avoid eye contact entirely. Don't speak unless spoken to, and in that case respond with neutral and apologetic excuse like "I need to go pick up my kids, sorry." because ignoring people itching for a fight just escalates their desire to harass you. Not everyone in these areas is like this, but they do exist and can appear out of nowhere, so it's good to very be aware of your surroundings (without looking around too often that is, because that makes you look scared) and always have a plan if you get into these situations. Paying close attention to your peripheral vision and hearing is important in these places, as is giving off a relaxed, calm, nonchalant demeanor. *This is all probably more useful to post on the actual Alabama video, so I'll do that in a moment, but it's worth mentioning to anyone, just in case you end up in this situation some day.* At least on unstable roads and such you have the reliability that the only danger is misjudging the perpetual forces of gravity and physics that apply the same way there that they do everywhere else in the world.
@sirapple5893 жыл бұрын
PatriotPigeon It’s things like that which confuse me, how do you perceive someone merely glancing at you as a threat? It just doesn’t make sense to me.
@moogle683 жыл бұрын
@@sirapple589 it's not the physical act of glancing at someone that causes them to be irritated and start a fight it's more the fact that the glance could mean that they're being judged or looked at in a certain light or way. It's the possible perception or judgmental view that someone may be looking at them with not just the fact that it's a momentary glance of the eyes. That, or it's just someone who, like I said, is looking for a fight and will use anything as an excuse to start one. They're usually angry about something else completely, and you just happened to be in the wrong place the wrong time when you encounter them. Some people just don't know how else to process extreme amounts of emotion, (usually frustration and anger, but also sadness and betrayal) and some people are just taught that that is an acceptable way to do so because of the environment that they just happen to be born into/grow up in.

@@MrMaxer13 Oh the trip was certainly dangerous, but they used some clever cinematic tricks to showcase the danger of the road. 1. Notice how terrain is different in the long shot at 7:15 than it is in the closeups of the tire. Jeremy's wheel is behind a small mound of stones in the long shot. 2. You never see a closeup shot that has both the wheel on the edge, and Jeremy. 3. The Toyota Sequoia that is trying to pass is most likely the camera car. They have used similar cars in previous episodes and, if the dude was really in such a hurry, he would not have stopped. They filmed closeups separately, and spliced it together with the main footage to increase dramatic tension. Honestly more impressive how much thought was put into creating one of my favorite Top Gear moments.
