Bolt Action Blitzkrieg Germans (Warlord Games and Tamiya 1/48)

This is my latest edition to my Bolt Action collection and ever expanding Deutsches Wehrmacht. This army has got a bit of everything to be as flexible on the table as they were in 1939 and 1940. I also inadvertently use day-for-night filming techniques when focusing on some of the units. Lol. I also mention my yearly production stats at the end of the video. How about yourselves? How many models do you reckon you get done over a year? Let me know as I’m really curious to see if I’m as industrious as I think or not. Cheers and enjoy.

Awesome early war army, makes me want one also. I like the smoking cigar guy, with helmet strapped to his waist, and the tanks.

Early war is a lot of fun to play. Painting...it can get kind of boring. But I'm doing another Early War German Army anyway. Nerd 4 Life.

I wish I could do commentary like you do on your videos about the Babylonians, but I think I'd just get bogged down in , stumble and stutter my way through engineering minutiae about Panzers. lol

So you’ve mixed bolt action and regular Tamiya 1/48? Cool that it’s possible to do combinations like that.

Most of my vehicles are Tamiya 1/48. I have maybe 4 or 5 Resin Warlord ones and that's it and a couple of Rubicon kits I use as scenery. I find that the heroic scale of the 28mm is a better match for the 1/48 tanks than 1/48 figures. The 1/48 figures should be bigger but are actually smaller. Of course, living in Japan and being able to buy a 1/48 King Tiger at the supermarket makes it convenient as well. lol

Really nice. I’m doing late War Germans but have now started jumping about, doing a bit of everything WW2. Haven’t done anywhere near the amount of painting you have though. Had a bit of a run on Vikings, did a Saga warband, some Wars of the Roses, a few bits for friends then moved onto WW2 Germans. Only complete thing I did were the Vikings.

Thanks. I was really focused on bolt Action this year but got started on the Napoleonics and finished up some stuff I had that I had forgotten about. Next year, I'm dithering as to what to do. I've thought about another Bolt Action army, but the Napoleonics are pretty attractive. At the same time, other periods are starting to look interesting too. But I'm sure I'll be painting something. haha.

There’s always too much to paint 😀 - I want to continue with WW2 but I’d also like to get back to Dark Ages (Irish as opposition for the Vikings), French Indian War, Gangsters and have a go at Napoleonics. I’ve only ever painted a unit of French Dragoons but have always fancied the period.

I've had about 40 Saxons to paint for 2 years and they mock me from their box on the shelf. Ancients are fascinating as well, but when there are 3000 years of history in that 'gaming period', it's hard to pin down just one era. Ugh. Decisions, decisions.

The warlord panzer 3 definitely looks too small at 1/56 compared to the 1/48 models. They were crewed by 5 men, their is no way 5 of these would fit inside it. I have a few of the warlord models and the ones that have figures look like children compared to the infantry models. I stopped buying them as I realised they were wrong.

Sorry for commenting on an old video, but I'm curious to know whether it's better to go with 1/48 or 1/56 in BA?

Sorry for getting back to you way, way late. I use the 1/48 because the models in Japan are super cheap and I can buy them anywhere pretty much. There isn't the range that you can get from Warlord or 1/56 resin / 3D printed, but they scale up pretty well. My friend in Canada told me that 1/48 tamiya kits were about $40 CAD, which I wouldn't pay if I lived there.
