Wow! Thank you. Living in Europe, I was never in contact with weapons, like most Hollywood producers and writers. What you are saying makes so much sense. And, at the same time, it makes so ridiculous how on top of unlimited ammo and gas, the TV shows have weapons in perfect working conditions a decade later.

One thing about gas keys is that they can work loose over time, and they won’t look loose. Check for this by holding the body of the bolt carrier in one hand, and try to move the gas key with the other. Any movement between carrier and the key is bad. This problem is most likely to happen on really well used AR-15s and M16/M4s. Excellent information, as always, Tacticool Girlfriend.

Yes, excellent point, thank you! A loose gas key should be apparent with a little wiggle.

Jim Sullivan came back with his own enhanced BCG that Surefire made. Jim actually gave a big shoutout to LMT for their enhanced carriers and said it was probably the best possible upgrade with a shorter barrel rifle. When they made the 14.5 and shorter, Jim Sullivan never accounted that in his design and unfortunately Colt just said to "make it work" and they used the same parts as the rifles but just added a heavier buffer and shorter gas system but it still had a much shorter lifespan and a much more violent system than what they originally designed when they scaled down the AR10.

It's important to note the the altered cam path in the LMT Enhanced BCG was designed for carbine gas systems with minimal dwell time and large gas ports. IE: the Mk 18. It needs the high port pressure of the carbine system to work reliably. It will decrease the reliability of mid-length and rifle gas systems. If you're running a 14.5 or longer barrel, getting the bolt by itself with a milspec carrier is a better modification.

Amazingly, despite being built in 2011, and having fired probably close to 6000 rounds by now, the gas rings on my DD M4v7 bolt still hold up to the stand test. Cleaned it maybe twice the entire time I've owned it.

I used to love running nickle boron bcgs as they seemed to run smoother, but over time, I found that it chewed up gas rings much faster than my regular phosphate bcgs Good info in this vid 👍

Seconding this; the AR-Stoner NiB BCG I've been running has gone through gas rings faster than my phosphate BCGs. Not that its hard to buy and replace gas rings, but for those that don't want to bother then the phosphate BCG is more for you than a NiB one.
@Blahajblaster

@@thefirstthrownmolotov6852 its odd because I haven't had issues with Chrome bcgs and I've had friends with nickle Teflon bcgs that seem to not eat gas rings. But all nickle boron bcgs eat gas rings from my experience, I even saw one crack a cam pin really early on.

As a person that has a Bootleg Adjustable BCG in hopes to make shooting suppressed less terrible... It's not really worth it IMO. Ran M193 thru my Block II and I ended up keeping it on the "unsuppressed" setting to make sure it cycled when running my 300 SPS.

They’re good BCGs. The bolt is made out of an Alloy called Aermet. I’ve found the best way to mitigate gas in the face was to get an OSS silencer. Amazingly effective - would love to see you do a video on one someday!

If you got a bore camera and can see inside the carrier, you'll see the milspec one has just a big hole where the gas key comes out. The lmt one has two gas ports that go left and right instead of straight down. I find it unique but it is harder to clean because you can't push a pipe cleaner down the gas key like you can with a milspec one.

I'm using a Bexar Arms (pronounced BEAR) 9310 BCG in a DD M4A1 build. Right out the gate I can't be happier with its performance. Sure it's a hefty build, but paired with a Breek Arms Warhammer, it felt like the only gas coming out of my rifle was out the muzzle.

Ive been running a Bootleg bcg in my 300 blackout for about 8 months now. Definitely recommend. I've been testing a variety of ammo lately, subs and supers, and it allows me to cycle everything, at the very least. You can really notice the difference in the gas settings, especially regarding the movement of the BCG itself. Ive decided i want to go ahead and tune the rifle for subsonic ammo, so ill need to do a little more tuning than just the BCG. For supers + suppressed, the BCG alone made a world of difference in mitigating gasses.

@TacticoolGirlfriend, just curious, how many times a week do you practice at the range, and how many bullets per training session do you shoot? I thought that the bolt group in a CAR-15 (even a commando-length with a sound-suppressor) was tens of thousands of duty-cycles.

The relief cuts are a bad thing on the ejector side..It leaves and an opening for ingress that the standard rail doesn't..The cam cut on the LMT is lengthened on the straight part of the cam path to allow more residual pressure to escape in the carbine gas system before the bolt un-locks..It will not work reliably in a rifle length gas tube..This lengthened cam track does not increase dwell time as that is determined by the port location to the muzzle....

What’s your opinion about Toolcraft’s Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coated M16 cut BCGs?
@TacticoolGirlfriend
@TacticoolGirlfriend Жыл бұрын
DLC is interesting, but I honestly like phosphate for its more porous properties, which help retain lubrication rather than slick it off.
@slingshotnerd
@slingshotnerd Жыл бұрын
@@TacticoolGirlfriend lol yeah that’s fair enough, the main reason I got it is because I wanted an m16 cut bcg instead of my default ar cut one. I also got this specific bcg because of how great they made it sound; extremely low friction coefficient, it cleans easier, super resistant to wear, blah blah blah. But honestly I’m quite impressed with how it’s running so far, I’ve shot over 200 rounds with the thing and it may not retain as much CLP as phosphate, but it’s very smooth and silky when racking the bolt back’n forth, also it cleans just as good as my original bcg. Maybe it’s just buyer’s bias? Idk but I think it’s pretty good!
