In 1989 my mom came back from work and told me 'I bought you a record'. I said ... gosh she bought me some crappy pop record... when I took it out of the bag, it was Realm of Chaos. She bought it because the vinyl was white and she thought it was 'strange'. I was into thrash metal but never heard anything this extreme... I never looked back ever since.

Bro! Similar story ... when I was a kid I started listening to heavy music at a young age, for my birthday (must have been like 10, give or take a year, think i was younger than 10), anyway, my birthday I came home from riding BMX with friends around my trail, my mom says "hey I wanna give ya a bday gift, before yer dad comes home and we do more gifts but this is from me".... I open up 2 vinyl LPs... IRON MAIDEN "piece of mind" and AC/DC "flick of the switch"!!! She said, I know you're listening to some far out there stuff lol, so I basically picked the scariest looking record cover I could find... and, and the other one I knew knew band name. Guess which one was the "scariest record cover I could find" lol!? I swear my hair started growing long overnight and all my jeans turned stone washed like magic. I was a headbanger instantly lol. Our moms influenced the heck out of us forever!

In 1989 my Mum found my Morbid Angel, Obituary and Slayer albums where I'd hidden them in a sideboard. My dad was virulently Catholic to the point of physical violence. My Mum gently told me to hide them better before he found them. They went beneath the floorboards under my bed. Thanks Mum.

Give me a break. Also, later Bolt Thrower stuff is way more original in sound than their early, grind and crust filled beginnings.
