First game me and my dear mum went to, being Boltoners but United fans (sat in the Bolton News End as away supporters) I am so glad this is on KZbin having lost her 6-months ago I can re-live that game knowing we were there together. Remember just looking at Schmeichel most of the match wanting to be him. Fabulous memories and great game. Burnden Park sorely missed too loved hearing the crowd when I was a kid when me and my mates playing out near the ground.

Man I miss footy like this - kids sitting on the roof of the stand, old stadium, muddy pitches and a proper atmosphere....it's all so sanitised and corporate these days.

People were complaining about exactly the same things back in '96. Read the fanzine back issues.

I think even then this was treated as a 'throwback' sort of game. The opening shot of the kids on the brickwork seems deliberate to evoke that feeling. Besides nothing post-1992 can be described as pre-corporate!

Will never understand why Bruce never got an England call up. You don't play over 300 games for United if you're not good enough for England.

Hopefully, now you understand why England have not won anything since 1966. They got a lot of very good players, but they don't know how to build a winning team.

I was at this game, we didnt even see the start. We went to the fencing made some gestures to Bolton fans and promptly got chucked out. 3 of us ended up in an Indian near the ground listening to it on the radio and then snuck into the bolton end for the last 10 minutes after they opened their gates. What a fcuk up of a day that was....we won though :)

I know the pitches are better now, I know the players are fitter and the football is quicker when it gets going but man, I miss the days of proper end to end football.

I would like to thank the jealous Bolton fan who spat some of his burger over me as I walked to the UNITED fans turnstile before the match. After travelling the country and a large part of the world watching UNITED , I can honestly say the funniest thing I've ever seen at a football game was when a Bolton player but the ball in the net but Schmeichel just stood there as it was obviously offside by several yards (as they were then). This didn't stop a large group of Bolton boys to our left celebrating wildly although 3 down before that. The free kick was taken midway inside UNITEDS half. The Bolton boys carried on. And on. To this day I'm convinced some of the burger wasters still think the score was 1-6. Perhaps they know more of the rules now if they've attended a second or third match.. 👹

Good Christ that first almost goal by Giggs, it’s amazing to me how he’s not admired more as a world class winger in his youth than simply someone who had a lot of club success. Fucks sake.

What was funny to us United fans was that Bolton actually thought they were a rival of ours. Don't get me wrong they are not the only club who are misguided enough to think we give a flying F*** what they think, but nevertheless it's amusing. United's ARCH rivals are LiVARpool, City and when they eventually get back into the PL, The Scum from Bellend Road. However atm it's only LiVARpool and City. Atm we don't have a massive rivalry with Arsenal, Everton, Spurs or Chelsea and never really have apart from maybe a decade from 1994-2004 with the Gooners and a couple of years with Chelsea.
