Incredible really how quickly the decline set in. They started the season like a train and when Arsenal had those points deducted after the Old Trafford brawl you couldn't back them with any money. McMahon, Beardsley, and Steve Staunton were gone 12 months later (Houghton left the following year after a wonderful season) and a number of others (Whelan, Barnes) would suffer long term injuries. Sure, Souness broke up the team far too quickly but the signs were there before he arrived. Their time was simply up.

man u/fa gloryhunters are the most racist people in soccer.11>1.Amen.This was a super duper Liverpool team,played with panache and invention which was vastly superior to man u/fa's unique brand of soccer fondly called "Kick Anything That Moves",which was very much in evidence by messrs M.Robins,Ince and M.Hughes in this match,sure it was the only way they could 'win' games.For me man u/fa's 2 best players of all time were Mike Riley and Howard 'The Coward' Webb,truly awesome dudes who always got man u/fa out of trouble.11>1.Amen.

It`s a toss up between the 87/88 team and the 78/79 team as the best of all time.
@MrDante4dmc10 жыл бұрын
Joanna Deerfield I would say in terms of productivity in all areas,defense,attack,goals scored and conceded,and points gained the78/79 team were the most efficient,but the exciting flair play and the magical players looking like anything the Brazilian national team has produced over the years,that entertainment factor just about brings them level.

That Liverpool side would have been a contender for winning the UEFA Champions League nowadays.

The young John Barnes was fantastic, right up there with the Liverpool all time greats,

Aye, and more than that, one of the finest players in the world in the late 80s and one of England's very best of all time.

First match I ever saw on tv on ITV’s “the match” shown on Sunday . Also was the first kit I got for Christmas that year . I was Liverpool-mad as a kid. Then Souness came along and took a massive dump all over the club which screwed us for years

Man U wearing a very similar looking kit at Anfield tonight. Same result.

It's weird how Liverpool have just always been a rock n roll high tempo attacking team, Jurgen Klopp has brought that same energy I wonder if it was deliberate from Liveprool board to hire Klopp for that reason?

On my first trip to Manchester with my family, a 12 year old liverpool fan, me, watched this game in my dad's friends house(he's man utd) . My dad was man city. One of my happiest childhood memories

The majority of these players on the pitch playing to such high standards and ability were from the British isles. Go forward thirty years and we virtually have none in the whole league.

However, this is one thing I like a lot about Klopp. He has a lot of young British talent in his squad. In all of his Liverpool squads since 2015, half of the players are British. Curtis Jones coming through, Alexander Arnold established, Rhys Williams developing. The one thing I never liked about Man City under Pep is he doesn't bring in enough British players into his squads.

Beardsley was dropped for the very next game by Dalgleish ..it began Liverpool's demise. Rumours about the terse relationship between them and it started to poison things at the club.

To think that J. Milner now wears our No.7 jersey. Not that Milner is a bad player, though.

Liverpool during the 1980s through to the early 1990s were like the Brazil of the UK in how they played. Look at 5:43-5:59. Alex Ferguson in his interview with Neville recently said that he used to be so impressed by Liverpool and their training and it inspired him in his managerial approach.

It's good to hear the voice of Brian Moore, so enthusiastic when goals sre scored. I noticed how both Barnes and Ince were always booed when they got the ball, it was nice to see goalies actually catching the ball. I loved the 80's and i loved watching this team.
