New camera looks great! But I am seeing a low-level shaking or vibration almost the whole video. Software stabilization might clear that up, but so too would a lens with integrated hardware stabilization. Food for thought!

Tightening up that shutter speed should do the trick, and/or turning off in-camera image stabilization (those systems tend to freak out when they're trying to stabilize a camera already mounted to a tripod)

The backup to the healing mat is the healing floor. A ball bearing hitting the clean floor would have bounced all the way to the wheel house of the MV Ever Given. In you case the bearing hit the equivalent of a movie theater floor and stuck.

That's amazing. Haven't seen one of those in years. I remember my dad having one when I was growing up. Invariably, the battery was always self discharged when you went to use it. Of course, if it was charged, the damn thing wouldn't fit into wherever the fastener was anyway.

Amazingly enough, the newest craftsman 20v cordless ratchet is probably even more useless for auto repair...its huge! I saw an ad for it..taking our valve cover bolts...its probably the only place they could fit the thing...i'll stick to a speed handle and skip the carpal tunnel surgery.

I had one of those. The battery didn't hold a charge for long and the motor didn't have a lot of power. But they were built well compared to some of today's plastic tools. Would be fun to see it built up with a modern brushless motor and a LiPo battery. Hopefully the drivetrain could survive the power. Glad you found the ball bearing for the sprague clutch.

I had one of those and I was able to use it for years. Whenever I had a small job to do I would yank that off of the charger. Whenever I had heavier work to do I would use my air tools. Finally about 10-12 years ago it gave up the ghost. It would no longer hold a charge and with all the new technology it really didn't make sense to take it apart and try to retrofit new batteries. I really want to thank you for bringing back a memory. It was just a week ago that I was talking about this.

Sears/Craftsman stuff was always hit or miss in the quality department but the great thing was every manual had a parts breakdown on the last page with actual part numbers! You could call up Sears and but replacement parts. What a concept!

My mum let her out into the garden when I told her not to. Bella got stuck in a gate and bit my mum when she tried to pull her out. My mum ended up in hospital for a week. She should have listened to me really. Bella is only tiny.

Hi Ave. You should charge a large capacitor from rectified line voltage (120 VAC rectified will be about 170 VDC), then remove the line and use the charged capacitor at 170V to chooch some angry pixies into the battery. When the pixies are agitated at 170 V, they're not just mildly annoyed, they're quite angry when you let them into a 3.6 V system. They burn copper buildups inside the battery and might skoomify it back to (mostly) original state.

I'll add to the "My dad had one of those..." club... My dad had one of those way back when...I never actually saw him ever use it. It just stood quietly sentinel in its charging dock on the wall in the tool closet day in and out. I remember trying to use it on some lawnmower repair project once and it made it like half a turn and died, probably because the batteries were cooked from perpetually sitting on the charger for years. Cool idea, and probably was expensive in the store, but there's no getting around the RadioShack technology that was common in most battery powered stuff back then. These modern day cordless tools would have been Godlike back then.

I still have mine. It's the skill brand. Used it in the early 90s wrenching on aircraft. Great for tight spots. Called it sammy the christmas snake due to its sound whilst operating. If you hold the side button in just a little it runs quiet.

Gadzooks! I had one of these, albeit another label - Skil. AKA The Skilwrench. I bought it new around 1987-88, still have the charger nailed to the wall believe it or not. Wrench long gone. Pot metal POS. I upgraded to a Dayton air ratchet which was only moderately better, until a crackhead relieved me of it and all my other 80's era toolage.

My grandpa was a diesel mechanic for decades. He swore by craftsman tools. Couldn't afford fap off. He took in a 1/2" drive ratchet for replacement, and the counter guy said "this looks like its had a cheater on it". My grandpa without missing a beat said "what aisle are the cheaters in? I want one of those!"

I've been working on fishing reels for the last few years and it would be amazing to incorporate the anti reverse clutch into a rachet that seems it would almost eliminate the backlash on a rachet and almost allow an infinite amount of placement to be able grab the fastener. Maybe that is worth a look at some point in the future Mr AvE as it's way above my pay grade. Just a thought that has crossed my mind many times. I'm not sure how to incorporate it into a uni-directional design. If someone were to figure that out it would almost change the tool industry for the better. Maybe I'm over thinking it here and it has already been done. Just never seen anything like that b.

I had one of those, late 90's. It played a key roll in my ability to change a head gasket on a V.W. Diesel Rabbit in 4 hours, from battery disconnect to battery connect. It worked great while it lasted, but as you suspected, the switch was it's weak point. It shorted, got hot and laid a really nasty burn on my middle finger. I couldn't curl it up for a week. That causes a lot of misunderstandings when you drive for a living.

Classic. But just because it appears to be made better doesn't mean it can't fail just as fast. I offer this up because I had a Craftsman Cordless Screwdriver of this era and in under a year of just taking appart B&W tube TVs in the parent's basement the thing failed. Sears did give me another one but later I found Skil to be a better model at half the cost because it had a replaceable battery system. Good to see you back at it again!

If you wanted to know, the reason it turns so far before engaging the square drive is to allow the motor to get up to speed before the torque load hits.

Excuse me but it’s no laughing matter. Back in 1825, Englishman Lucas Chloride returned from war in Japan and set up the first of what would grow to be a whole region full of battery factories. It was only when in nearby Scotland, the precocious Jonathan Ingersoll partnered with Graham Rand to form the Jonathan-Graham Pneumatronic company that the end of Chloride’s portable-power monopoly began. The J-G compressors were expensive and unreliable and the company failed. The fate of the two inventors is lost to history but local historians believe they established another enterprise - the name of which is unknown
