I haven't played the game so I don't know the full story, but it's actually kind of appropriate that Bomb Rush Cyberfunk's story is about identity and playing as a character who is essentially "borrowing" the body of another person. Put JGR/JSRF in the place of Faux and BRC in the place of Red and the story takes on a new meta-narrative. JSRF got "decapitated" and Tryce (who represents Team Reptile) gives JSRF a new "head" in the form of BRC. JSRF went from a weird, quirky game from the now legendary sixth console generation and itself became a legend. BRC struggles with its identity because it knows that it's always going to be compared to JSRF.
@BaseAbsol
@BaseAbsol Жыл бұрын
i love this comment because it’s 1. so perfectly described. 2. perfectly encapsulates the fan base itself While every hardcore classic JSR/JSRF fan (myself included) will always find a way to compare, i think we all have enough love for the genre itself that i’d say the comparisons will always be positive. Having an identity crisis be the focal point of the story i think is a perfect start to T.R.’s start of their “story” along with setting up for the future of what they create.
@T1544767

@@BaseAbsol I'm a fan of JSRF. I'm still a fan of the overall vibe of Dreamcast games. I loved to play JSRF just to skate around, listening to the music, enjoying the scenery, and soaking in its atmosphere.
@angel_of_rust
@angel_of_rust Жыл бұрын
that sounds kinda salty. of course it's gonna be compared to the thing it's deriving 90% of what made the original so good back then which hasn't seen any attempts to replicate until this game. that's just the consequence of being a spiritual sequel. they were marketing this game with JSR/F in mind anyway.
@T1544767
@T1544767 Жыл бұрын
@@angel_of_rust Don't get me wrong: I'm not saying this game is bad. I'm only suggesting that it sounds as if the story is ABOUT how it's a spiritual successor to JSRF. If anything, I think that is profound and clever.

@@Jet_Set_Go I fucking love it dude, I just reached the point where you can freely switch between board, skates, and bike; and the game just keeps getting better. Only thing I'm less into is you have to unlock every new track instead of just having a regular soundtrack. I hope to God that team reptile get with a company to make figures of these characters, I've got a JSR Beat from Kaiyodo and a custom made beat from JSRF and they need to be paired up with some BRC crew. I can see a Red figure with a swappable Faux head, but that's just me over sharing my hobby lmao. The game is JSRF 3 essentially and I'd have paid any price for it, so props to the devs for putting it out at 40 bucks. Edit: my bad I just realized I commented originally as crackhead Carl, this is my alt lmao

I'm surprised there wasn't a mention of Jet Set Radio Future. A lot of the aspects that weren't present in Jet Set Radio were in Future and some of those aspects were carried over to Bomb Rush. Even the main antagonist feels like a mix of Beat and Akuumu. It feels like Team Reptile took aspects and inspiration from EVERY entry in the Jet Series. Which to me feels like true love and passion. Pull EVERYTHING you can, leave the bad, and add something great of your own and you make something Beautiful. Can't wait to play. I'm waiting to see if the Xbox/Playstation versions have cool achievements/trophies I can go for. If None, than I'll get it on my switch.

Hey Retro Rebound! I just wanted to leave a comment here. Your reviews of Retro Games really helped me looking for more physical games I want to collect. Particularly PSP and PS Vita since I just ordered both after looking at tons of videos with recommendations and reviews. I was stunned at how much I missed out. I always ignored them and highly regret it to be quite honest. Luckily I already made a list of which games to order and acquired 10+ at this moment. I wished I would have realised sooner that DLC's and all that stuff partly vanished already on Vita, PSP and PS3. Luckily I was able to get everything on 3DS I wanted before it was too late. I love collecting and having things completed. For the future I make sure to buy all PS4, PS5 and Switch games I want physically with all their DLC's to not face this issue again and being able to utilize my consoles to their fullest. Every console I have will be used. They all will have a bunch of games. I make sure of that (this retro stuff really has gotten in my head too much...). Very kind regards here :)

Jet Set Radio and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk epitomize distinct epochs within the evolution of digital recreation. While Jet Set Radio, a progenitor of its era, masterfully merged graffiti subculture and kinetic skating with cel-shaded aesthetics, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk strides into the contemporary milieu by interweaving responsive parkour and an amalgamation of retro-futuristic panache. The former's cultural resonance echoes the turn of the millennium's rebellious spirit, whereas the latter's synthesis of mechanics and ambiance mirrors the cybernetic zeitgeist of today's interconnected world.

I have two big gripes with this game: 1. Transition areas between neighborhoods. They're not clearly marked, and they fuck with the camera when you get close. It's very easy to accidentally force a load into a new section, and even easier to ruin your combo when the camera suddenly jerks around. 2. Game crashes. My game has crashed after completing literally every neighborhood's final challenge, and a few times during other cutscenes and load screens. Luckily it didn't affect my playthrough in any way other than wasting my time, but I can't remember ever playing a game that crashed this much. Playing on Switch. Maybe that's the problem.

I haven't seen anyone mention this but they replicated JSRF so well even down to the menu. The 3D map is very similar to Future's as well as the start and back noises that play when going through the menu. It was little touches like that that make it feel more like a sequel to Future rather than a spiritual successor.

Imported the Dreamcast version of JGR in august 2000 and it’s remained an all time favorite, despite how clunky the gameplay is (visuals and music still rock to this day). Put in about an hour so far today and while I had a tough day before I got the chance to play and wasn’t in a good mood, I’m initially slightly disappointed. I’m hoping I just need to get the gameplay down and get get farther in. Sunset Overdrive put an entire city together I could walk run and grind all while shooting. I find this city a little sparse gameplay wise. Any JGR fans that haven’t played Sunset Overdrive: you’re missing out.

Just finished the game! It would be cool for them to connect their games like have lethal league be part of the world in bomb rush cyber funk 2 and maybe even work a deal with sega to have some cameos of the GGs from the jet set crew post JSRF to join in on the fun. Maybe make the bosses as complex as the final boss or even take some ideas from the world ends with you neo. Maybe add some clothes and fashion to the mix instead of just color changes being able to change clothes and parts on your skates, bike, and skateboard like in tony hawks pro skater 1+2. Yeah so much they can do for the 2nd game but OUTSTANDING JOB they did on the first game this is one for the history books #Legendary #BRCFOREVER

as a speedrunner of JSRF, I felt this game was kinda more slower paced to focus more on the combo system. the boost in this game isn't as fast as the boost in JSRF, doing tricks on BMX actually slows down your speed while grinding, where as in JSRF doing tricks on rails speeded you up. Even the graphiti is somewhat slower then the graffiti in JSRF. The skid/manual in this game kinda speeds you up after you do it after a grind, where as the skid/manual in JSRF gradually slowed down..
