Small note, the soundtrack is not by Hideki Naganuma. He did the promotional music and iirc 4 songs in the game's mixtapes, but the soundtrack is by a bunch of different artists. Some of it is pre-released music that the team brought on, some of it was made specifically for the game.

Everyone being confused about the combat is so funny to me. You're not supposed to just stand there and whack em, you gotta slam into em with Boost & hit them with drive-by trick damage, especially from on grind rails. "It's about fighting with style!" You can insta the little guys really quick with trick > jump > paint. The on-foot trickjump launches them upwards, you can even hit multiple with the graffiti at once.

I feel the same way, but I understand why most people just mash buttons and come away disappointed. The game never tells you how combat really works. I didn't discover the high jump trick until after I had already finished the main story and most of the post-game. The fact that you never get a little text message explaining how to do the on-foot high jump and that it opens up cops to be KO'd via paint is a baffling design choice. The game goes out of its way to text you every detail about most of its other mechanics, often multiple times and with an in-game tutorial moment. Why not do this for combat as well? As someone who fumbled through combat but eventually learned to love it once I figured out the "correct" way to fight, I can confidently say that randomly stumbling upon the high jump maneuver and discovering way too late that combat actually _didn't_ suck was NOT more fun than if the game just _explained_ it like it did everything else. LOTS of reviews across the spectrum of print, video, and social media have complained that BRC has bad combat, and I don't blame them. Imagine how many people passed on this awesome game because they thought combat was a superfluous afterthought instead of another way to show off your skill in style. Not explaining combat and the absence of any post-game challenges once you've unlocked the rival gang members are the two biggest oversights made by Team Reptile.

Slight Correction for 5:23 : Jet Set Radio's Hideki Naganuma didn't "do the soundtrack" for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk; he is merely one of many artists featured on the OST.

Fun thing about the combat, if you hit an enemy and then jump, or if the spray icon shows up at all while you're fighting, you can spray tag the regular cops for an instant KO. You can even take out groups with this sometimes. Also Naganuma only did 3 songs on the soundtrack.

The Combat is kinda Good it's just wasn't explained well like you must do a 1 2 3 Combo, Jump and then Spray Grafitti on them to beat them(aside from Snipers that goes down in one hit) And the Jump move is an AOE of sorts that launches any enemy in the air near you and as soon as you do the Graffiti it will not only apply to your target but also most of your surrounding enemies in the air giving them an Instant KO.

Its fun. Controls are far better than the JSR series of games. It's also more combo focused like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Combat is so so but it's not the focus and most encounters can be outright ignored unless it's a boss fight. The game also weirdly lacks a reset camera button but it's a minor complaint.
