To clarify, jet set radio DID get a sequel that fixed most problems with the gameplay called "jet set radio future" on the original Xbox. Some of BRC's blemishes come from JSRF, but overall it improves on JSRF.

it's still eh for me, like there are cool things you can do in combat and it's makes for fun cinematic moments and even for camera picks, but it does get old after a while where I just end up going to the nearest available portal potty

this game is such a banger, it's like tony hawks but more accessible the movement techs arent really taught to you (eg jumping after a kick gives you a boost and gives you a chance to instakill enemies) but after learning them it's really fun the bosses arent forgettable methinks, fighting a second time makes it so much funner I think the combat is alot better then it seems but it never teaches you how to make the combat fun solace is an icon, imagine being claustrophobic but also being a masochist

theres actually a better approach to combat where you jump after a trick to send an enemy airborne and it will prompt you to do a graffiti mid combat to eliminate multiple enemies. its something you discover after messing with the combat for a few minutes which apparently you failed to do lmao

Should mention jet set radio did actually get a sequel… exclusively for the original xbox and isn’t a available through backwards compatibility It’s a shame cause the soundtrack is better, the graphics are better, the gameplay mechanics are WAY better and it goes from level based to semi open world (with loading screens between areas) , and most of the stuff in brc is coming from this game (Jet Set Radio Future) There also have been leaks suggesting sega is working on a new jet set radio, however there’s a very high chance it’s gonna be a live service game, and I don’t think any jsr fans would like that

I never played Jet Set, but I've played a lot of Tony Hawk growing up (you could say too much). I'm picking it up full price because Team Reptile is awesome (their other game Lethal League is recommended), and they got the original composer for Jet Set to make music for both of their games. Maybe not game of the year, but definitely a contender for soundtrack of the year.

The game reminds me of dmc or bayonetta (character action games) where in it gives you a fuck ton of options and moves, and its up to you to find your own fun by using it in ways not really intended tbh. But except with dmc and bayo being the sum of their enemies (cause even with dmc gameplay, your game can suck if the enemies are unfun (dmc4)) bomb rush is the sum of its levels. And how you choose to style and interact with the levels with your deep toolbox of tricks, mobility, meter, etc. Its really fun for a character action game that focuses on movement than combat.

Pretty negative recommendation? Also the way you're supposed to deal with enemies is try and hit a bunch of them at once, then jump after doing a hit to launch them into the air--and then you spray paint them to take out the whole group. It doesn't add a ton of depth but it is more satisfying than slowing down to kick them a few times, and you can dispatch groups without ever breaking combo if you're good enough, which can be fun.

honestly the only real problem I have is the way you kinda written off the story might just be me but honestly, it really didn't feel that "silly" to me (although I do understand it to a extent) it's a little goofy but it's actually pretty interesting, honestly I'm just disappointed how there's just not really much resolution. I don't really know how to explain it but going "all city" by the end just didn't really feel too accomplishing as a whole. but for the most part they did fairly well, especially considering their last game was LLB which had a saddening lack of. though I definitely gotta say that the police are definitely the worst part of the game, as they make doing it's MAIN GIMMICK of DOING TRICKS AND SKATING ARONUD super annoying, especially when you're just trying to tag a few places and you get like a 3 second cutscene in between each one due to the heat mechanic edit: and also bugs, I encountered a fair few more than I feel like I should have encountered considering a lot of them just come from the maps themselves

This is going to come off way harsher than I mean it to sound but it seems like most of your critizism seems to come from the fact that you dont know how to play the game becuase you skipped dialogue that explains how certain things work... combat is not nearly as simple as you make is seem (perhaps you exadurated intentionally for comedic effect, but if so, that is extraordinarily disingenuous). Yes it IS the average "mash this button over and over and do a combo" type of combat, but if you press the button as slow as you were then you will just to the same attack over and over again. They explain that there are multiple combat buttons that have their own combos and effects. Additionally you can dash into enemies, jump and then do a spray combo on them as a finisher. Other combos can end in spray finishers. The problem is that the game explains this in the "boring dialogue" that you most likely skipped lol.

To be fair I found out you could just hit and jump to activate the spray function instantly taking them out so in some ways Combat is pointless and to their own whether they enjoy or not, plus it's not the main point of the game and doesn't really force you at all so that's good

Yeah, I think I like that though. Having a variety of moves from the beginning and not knowing how to use them yet they are there, similar to a game like odyssey. But I agree it does teach you in a poor way where they reveal things slowly over time where odyssey had the Guide book that taught you everything right then and there

The Jet Set Radio Fans are loving this game btw, me being one of them. A lot of the stuff pointed out as weird is exactly the kind of charm that JSR and it's Xbox reimagining are all about, this game could've come out as a Ps3 launch game if Sony weren't a bunch of assclowns who cared about realism. Bomb rush is a game which your enjoyment of is going to be reliant on if your a pre-existimg JSR fan. If your not its still a good time, obviously, its a good game. But if your a JSR fan the BRC is exactly what you have wanted to scratch the itch since JSRF came out. This game clicks with me a ton like I know it’s not perfect but for me personally it’s a goty contender. But my biggest problems are that there’s no dance spot in the hub so you have to go into a level to change characters, and also the toilets where you change your costume lock after using them?? It limits you on how many times you can change your color alt it’s so dumb.

I kinda get the cutscene thing, but for the gang stuff for example it's just a small scene of the character breaking it down to indicate where they are on the map after you've painted a certain quantity of graffiti and got enough rep. In my experience I didn't feel like they interrupted the flow of the game, it's just a little "Oh nice, there they are" to then keep going.
