Gene wasn't giving the kid a lesson on how to play the drums, he was directing the kid on how the song is supposed to be played. it was playful, funny, and awesome because the kid did good. that kid will always cherish that time he played with Gene Simmons and even got some pointers. just awesome.

I’m 19 and I’m a drummer, got to play a few songs in my dads bands throughout my life. I can tell you playing on someone else’s kit, ESPECIALLY the first time and only once, it doesn’t feel right or natural. The kid did great, he’s a natural.

I covered for my cousin on his kit when he smashed his knuckle. My kit was in the repair shop. Fucked up the opening song. We had an almost identical set up. But it juuuuuuuuust didn't feel right when I got on his. I had to harmonize with the band for a bit until I got the hang of it. This kid did pretty good on a kit that ain't his.

If you can handle being stopped over and over from Gene Simmons on stage till you get it right. You can handle anything. Gene showed this kid a VERY valuable lesson in what it takes to be a pro and he didn't even mind crashing his show a little to do it. As big an ego Gene has, he has always been a rock star mentor to new bands, teaching them about the whole package of being a rock star. Even when he had the kid say his name he told him "Say it like a rock star" I've heard him do this with other young bands on Howard Stern. People hate him, and sometimes he makes me cringe too, but he's still been one of my biggest rock star hero's for 40 years.

Exactly! All the unsavory things that folks say about Mr. Simmons...well.....look where he's at? One of the biggest names in rock....ever! He's doing something right! We let an unknown, unheard 17 year old kid in the back door of a bar one night and let him play with the band. He played like Alex Van Halen and knew most of the stuff we did. Ronnie joined the band 2 years later (at 19) and we used him for the Water Boy during the Wet T-Shirt contest's. We raised him right!
