Gene wasn't giving the kid a lesson on how to play the drums, he was directing the kid on how the song is supposed to be played. it was playful, funny, and awesome because the kid did good. that kid will always cherish that time he played with Gene Simmons and even got some pointers. just awesome.

Absolutely. I was a drummer for 14 years and you need to know the exact stop point and wait and time it out and still stay in rhythm. That's exactly what Gene was teaching the kid and they did a phenomenal job and this kid will remember that for the rest of his life! Kudos to all involved! :-)

I’m 19 and I’m a drummer, got to play a few songs in my dads bands throughout my life. I can tell you playing on someone else’s kit, ESPECIALLY the first time and only once, it doesn’t feel right or natural. The kid did great, he’s a natural.

Word. It took me days to set my kit up til it felt right. Couldn't imagine stepping up to a strange kit and ripping into a song.

I covered for my cousin on his kit when he smashed his knuckle. My kit was in the repair shop. Fucked up the opening song. We had an almost identical set up. But it juuuuuuuuust didn't feel right when I got on his. I had to harmonize with the band for a bit until I got the hang of it. This kid did pretty good on a kit that ain't his.

At 13 years old I played Gene in a school talent show singing Christine Sixteen. As a young man KISS brought a lot of joy into my life with their image & music. In the 70s & 80s we had true ROCK N ROLL. Todays kids just don't have that. Makes me feel sorry for teenagers these days. I couldn't even imagine my childhood without ROCK N ROLL.

If you can handle being stopped over and over from Gene Simmons on stage till you get it right. You can handle anything. Gene showed this kid a VERY valuable lesson in what it takes to be a pro and he didn't even mind crashing his show a little to do it. As big an ego Gene has, he has always been a rock star mentor to new bands, teaching them about the whole package of being a rock star. Even when he had the kid say his name he told him "Say it like a rock star" I've heard him do this with other young bands on Howard Stern. People hate him, and sometimes he makes me cringe too, but he's still been one of my biggest rock star hero's for 40 years.

Exactly! All the unsavory things that folks say about Mr. Simmons...well.....look where he's at? One of the biggest names in rock....ever! He's doing something right! We let an unknown, unheard 17 year old kid in the back door of a bar one night and let him play with the band. He had his sticks with him so that told me he played all the time and might be pretty good. After hearing about 20 seconds I knew it was going to be fun. He played like Alex Van Halen and knew most of the stuff we did. Ronnie joined the band 2 years later (at 19) and we used him for the Water Boy during the Wet T-Shirt contest's. We raised him right!

That was probably the highlight of that kids life so far. Gene is a class act for letting that young lad up on stage to perform with the band. I hope that the kid appreciated what Gene did and I hope that the kid turns out to be a successfull drummer. He did a great job on Christine, even with the hiccup.
