Gene's never spoken ill of Ace's talents as far as I know, only his lack of drive and personality problems. He'd always cared a lot about him, even when Ace was driving him crazy. One can care a great deal about someone and yet still realize it's best that they part ways. It doesn't mean they can't hang once in a while for fun, but they shouldn't be business partners again.

Not a Kiss fan but this is nice to watch. Some complain about Ace being out of time and shit like that. This was a benefit show and sometimes you have no time for rehearsals. You just go there and jam and have a great time and this seems to be the case.
