There is a good reason for it. Robot Chicken channel showed, Dr. Evazian's drunk prank on Luke Skywalker costed Ponda Baba not only loosing his arm but also his entire future as an architect. Star Wars characters encyclopedia shows Evazian nearly killed Ponda Baba during connecting his arm to the rest of his body.

Symbollically, this was a reference for discrimination laws for non-white American (they cannot enter the same place as Anglo-Saxon Americans).

In the original teaser trailer for this, there was a shot of the Arena battle on Geonosis with Anakin & Obi-Wan fighting the Geonosians, before the area gets changed (by the cornerstone) into a training ground for Jedi Geonosians (nothing on what became of Anakin or Obi-Wan however).
