the engineer needs to stay at the fuel tank or you cant tell how much fuel you have which is important cus running out of fuel = game over and you already have 2 gunners and the bomber which is a 3rd gunner why would you need engineer to be a gunner?

Because in bombing runs then the engineer can go in the front gun whilst the bomber is looking down to the ground to bomb

but the bombing area is right next to the front gun.. which btw is the least useful gun because usually enemies are behind you.. you only need to pull the bomber away from the gun for a second to drop the bombs.. you just need to be better at multitasking which drae just isnt very good at. besides the engineer needs to be available for repairs and wouldnt make a reliable gunner.

A flying fortress can survive even on one engine if handled well, it'll be extremely unwieldy, and it's already not exactly the most agile of planes, but it will keep running and be perfectly fine landing. There's records of there being only one still active crew member with the rest too injured to act or dead and him managing to fly the bomber with one engine down to landing.

Actually you can fly with engines working only on one side, but pilot needs to counter the spin by adjusting steering. It's hard and uses more fuel though.

Actually Draegast the lancaster could fly on 2 engines on one side, only barely, the pilot would have a hard time keeping the plane on course though.

@draegast, the ww2 bombers were notoriously resilient. Many came back with no tail fins some flew home with 1 engine. I knew a colonel named Colonel Misterly, he flew in ww2 and had stories you wouldn't believe about his aircraft almost being shot down constantly

Depending on the plane they could fly with two engines on one side but would have a hard time stearing...considering that you also lost one of your rudders you'd have either a really bad time, could only fly in circles or flatspin to death... although you could reduce the effect my lowering the throttle a little, but then lift would be an issue again so ehhhh

Actually Drae, most multi engine airplanes are designed to be able to still fly, though at greatly reduced speeds, with as many as 3/4 of their engines non-functional (read: totally fucked). I believe a Lancaster Bomber with no bombs on board could still fly with 2 engines destroyed/non-functional. All that would happen with the engines on one side destroyed while the other 2 are functional is that the plane would pull to one side and need constant correction.
