What a perfect performance by Marcy Mays & the Afghan Whigs. As much as I love Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, and all the other great music of the 1990s, this is the best song from the best album of the decade.

Absolutely love the album, still one of my all-time favs, but this one song floored me. And while I can't relate to the subject matter personally, it puts you right in the middle of it, don't you think? It has that rare combination of notes and vocals that can just take your heart and soul to some other place...."enslave I only use, as a word to describe the special way I feel for you"..."there's blood on my teeth when I bite my tongue to speak"..."temptation comes not from hell, but from above"

This is my favorite song of any genre ever. Its so hard to find a studio recording that is emotional as the Gentlemen version of this. Its so funny to me that my favorite Whigs song isn't even sung by Dulli, who is the only man I have a man-crush on.
@Sullivan4016 жыл бұрын
The Whigs recorded the fist demo of My Curse in 1989. (The song was then known as Ciaphas). Same lyrics with a slightly faster tempo. Dulli sat on the song until Gentlemen. How Hey Cuz get on Up In It and My Curse and Sister Brother were left off is a great mystery.

You hurt me baby I flinch so when you do Your kisses scourge me Hyssop in your perfume Oh, I do not fear you And slave I only use As a word to describe the special way I feel for you You look like me And I look like no one else We need no other As long as we have ourselves But I won't cry about it Every time you get obsessed Every time I came undressed All ugly thoughts are gone I'm sure we'll all be friends I'll try to break your back You'll try to make amends Curse softly to me baby And smother me in your love Temptation comes not from hell but from above And there's blood on my teeth When I bite my tongue to speak Zip me down, kiss me there I can smile now You won't find out ever Hurt me baby I flinch so when you do Your kisses scourge me Hyssop in your perfume Oh I do not fear you And slave I only use as a word to describe The way I feel when I'm with you If I have to lie about it everytime I came undressed

Well, since I know this song (for more than 10 years now), it did not annoy me for a second... Perhaps I listened to it more than a 1000 times, and it still has this strange power over me, brings me so much energy... Is it the kundalini being tickled?... I dunno... Not very entitled to the subject I can tell you this enchanting song is certainly in my personal top 10!
