The Afghan Whigs were a great underrated American band. They were genuine and they deserve to be restored to favor!

The Whigs were and still are very underrated band. Dulli ROCKS! Still one of my favorite bands.

This is literally one of my absolutely favorite albums ever. My background as a musician (guitarist) is NYHardcore/ Crossover. I'd always listen to these guys while driving out from Brooklyn to the Catskills to go snowboarding in the early-mid 90's.

Gentlemen was always my favorite album but damn everything they did was so great. So criminally underrated watching this in 2024 woohoo!

For as depressing as it can be, my home state of Ohio blessed us with Greg Dulli, Bob Pollard, Kim Deal, and Lou Barlow. And for that, I am thankful on this Thanksgiving.

When I first listened to the album 'Up In It' I knew I found something special. Between the Whigs, Dinosaur Jr and The Wedding Present the music of this era was soulful like the music of the 60's and 70's.

this superb video just changed my life. can you imagine if they were on conan today? would never happen. people don't know what good music is, when all they do is listen to mainstream radio. you have to delve into the history of the shit. this music right here is far better than anything being put out today. the intro alone kicks the ass of every fucking "rock" (or other) band/ musician out today.

oh also, at about 4:02, that smile is pure gold. as if to say "we just rolled in here and showed 'em all how it's done." i imagine, it that way at least...

I was born in 1933 at which point the stars aligned with Jupiter, where I was transported. I was taught of quality music such as this and sent on a spectacular mission back to Earth where I didn't age one bit. Once on Earth I viewed this performance and now I'm 15 and appreciate good music.

first Whigs experience was the rare video for "Sister Brother" on a Sub Pop video sampler over 20 years ago. After having seen them live 3 times during the 90's, I still can't get enough of their live sound. The female vocalist they brought on tour to sing My Curse (not the Scrawl singer) was so incredible that it's burned in my mind forever.

Haha. I know this comment is very late but I had to reply. I used to live near Chicago (I live in Hawaii now) I remember the days of "3 bands, 3 bucks" at the Cabaret Metro. My friend from high school also saw Smashing Pumpkins when they opened for That Petrol Emotion at the Metro. A lot of good bands and memories during that time.

Dozens of the best alternative rock bands (The National, Heartless Bastards, Afghan Whigs, etc.) came out of cincinnati. It's a great town for alternative rock, film and theater. I guess if those things dont interest you, you might not have a good time.

+BirdofSaxony You sir are fu*&^ in sane. These guys were signed by Sub Pop like a prop for the the grunge bands in Seattle.. The suits at the label laughed at the idea of a band from Ohio to rock. Well they played several festivals in Holland & sold more records in the US….They were not Sound Garden or Screaming Trees but they established a fan base.. I had a friend who owned a Indie Record Store back in the early 90's, & can attest these guys played their hearts out.

@MacHazzer Actually 90% thanks to Greg Dulli, since by Earle's own admission, Dulli either showed him the drum parts himself or told him exactly what to play. But i'm not putting down his talent, the dude can play.

I said it before and I'll say it again. The 90's man!!! Afghan Whigs /Hum/The Fugees/TLC/Pavement/Radiohead, all the diff music we had! A Tribe Called Quest/GraveDiggaz/I could go on all day. The diversity!!! What happened!!??? God bless everyone growing up now, there's good music out, but not on the radio/tv and for that , I'm sorry for all of you. ((least you got KZbin to see what ya missed)))
