Both the 9 mm and the 45 atomic ammo plus p are designed to be used in full size carry. Not tuned for subcompact or compact. I used the 45 + p in a full-size fnx-45 as well as an h&K USP with a German match barrel for duty carry. They are exceptionally accurate, and expansion is great when you're using full 5 inch barrels. It has the same issue when you are 380 ACP hollow points in subcompact weapons, you need that extra 380 ACP hollow points in subcompact weapons, you need that extra barrel length to get a proper expansion out of the hollow point, and hollow points are velocity-based. You are getting the correct velocity out of a full 5 inch barrel. Rounds design for subcompact specifically, have a faster burning powder even for pistol powder. The atomic ammo is designed with a slightly slower full-power cartridge to reach the plus p beyond Sammy spec.
@ToolsandTargets Жыл бұрын
I'll bet money right now this .45 will NOT expand from a 5 inch barrel. Not only that but if the 9mm were truly "designed for a full size barrel", then it's even worse. I've tested enough of this Berry's now to know it aint gonna happen.

@MichaelKMorris Жыл бұрын
Atomic is one of my least favorite companies - the advertised velocities are way over stated. They must be using extra, extra long barrels to achieve the printed ones. In reality, they are lower than average loaded pressures. A box of 44 mag I tested had 1500fps on the box, it came out at 1100, the lowest of 5 brands I tested that day. The second problem is availability. I wind up seeing their ammo in ANY caliber about once a year, in a dozen shops I frequent, even though their factory is in my town.

I have a suggestion. First those low numbers on one round are as likely to be the radar. Anyway, weigh each of the 5 rounds you do for the chronograph. Then, as you shoot them, you would know if it's a light round to begin with. And it would be a data point of knowns when comparing ammo. If all weight exactly the same yet you have a big spread then you know the problem it either electronic or there is a deeper issue well worth investigating. Good information on the ammo. Just got some in today and will be used in a commander and an APX A1. So naturally I will watch the other video next.

Tools- crazy question. Have you ever done a gel block test with two blocks at different temperatures? Pretty inconsistent velocities, and a 185 +P 45 Auto should certainly be getting more FPS than that, even from an abbreviated barrel. And I'd say the 9mm needs a little LESS velocity so it doesn't expand so dramatically and limit penetration. Those Berry's Hybrids have a very narrow velocity window where the expansion is reliable and penetration is optimal.

I haven't tested the .45acp, with these Berry's Hybrids, but I have tsted the 124gr 9mm, in handloads. The manufacturer specifies that for the bullet to open properly it must have a muzzle velocity must be 1,000fps. Under that, ,my terst bullets didn't open as they should, with a few looking like the ,45acp in your test. I would hope the 45acp would have a lower minimum velocity number for expansion, but it appears it doesn't. The .45acp should be designed to expand down to 850fps if it's to also be used in a standards velocity round. The other thing I want to mention, is the 9mm 124gr launched anywhere near 1100fpos will under penetrate. You have to be within a =or- 25fps window of 1050fps for them to penetrate and expand correctly. That's in my testing in SC at 500ft absl.
