I'm guessing maybe 700 fps out of 3.5". I miss the days when I could drop by with a 1000 cases for trade in and pick up 1000 rounds of .38 Special WC for $80. Zero was just the local guys then. Even then they did good work and I hit more empty shotgun hulls than I missed with my old 15-2 Dan Wesson. I very seldom payed for the Saturday Night Pizza.

One bullet actually went 1510 ft per second. I believe that would blow up my Ruger ec9s or my Max 9. I figured if I'm going to get something that hot I might as well get a 10 mm. Plus there are some really, really good SD ammo manufacturers out there and I don't shoot the expensive stuff other than making sure it runs in my guns reliably and accurately. Thank you for testing this ammo. I have a box of the 45 that I purchased a few years ago now. I am not sure what bullet they are using, but it looks very different than the Berry's jhp shown on your video. There is one other video I saw testing this ammo on youtube (The Most Powerful .45acp Ammo You Can Buy), posted a couple years ago, and the bullet in the ammo he tested looks different than both. It seemed to be a gold dot bullet, and it expanded pretty nicely in gel. Unfortunately no chronograph in that video. All three batches (yours, mine, and the other video test) have the same box, seems like they just use whichever bullet they have on hand. I was never able to chrono test my batch but recoil was moderate and the report was significantly louder than ball ammo.

Atomic is either using some inconsistent combination of components or has very inconsistent loading practices that cause a significant deviation in powder charge. "People overestimate how much velocity is gained from barrel length." That really depends on the powder, but you're right for pistol cartridges (normally). Really fast powders have sharp diminishing returns which is the point since they're loading for very short barrels.

After his last test, I went and checked out their website with this on my mind. They are based in Arizona, which has some extreme weather. So, I thought it possible that affects their loading components or choice of, through environment implications? Combine that with a typical type06 FFL homespun operation.
@timparkhurst8661 Жыл бұрын
Also, don't forget these are plated bullets with the Berrys. Plating on bullets can have some wide variances in thickness of the copper, even if they are sized correctly. That plays havoc on the compression and "obturation". The lab equipment to reduce that in plated, is beyond the reach of all but the biggest manufacturers.
