Although Topps does not straight up give us the print run of each product, they do list the odds of every non-base card in the product which does atleast give collectors an idea of how rare or not rare a certain card may be. Unlike Panini who just literally names every card you can pull which really does nothing for us. I think if Fanatics ends up being able to do something similar to what this guy is saying about being transparent with print runs, then they are going to do very well since that alone will help with supply/demand tremendously. Im definitely much more excited for the future of the hobby in Fanatics hands after seeing this video, hopefully they can do everything that was mentioned and more!

Interesting interview. It is true that Topps list the odds. But similar to lottery tickets if the odds of getting an XFactor chrome card is 1:318000 or 1:314000 doesn't really help to influence your decision to buy whether you know the PR or not. What I like about Luber is that he is exposing some of the thought processes about how he wants to shape the future of the card market. Topps never showed that.

What if they had like an entire super thin polymer layer that is the exact size and shape of the cards, and had athletes sign sheets of this polymer layer that then gets used as the final finish layer of the card...it would def. take some re-tooling, maybe entirely change how autographed cards are produced vs. non-auto cards, but it could be a compromise that allows for mass numbers of autographs to continue, but hides the look and feel of the sticker autograph...

He needs to make sure the hobby is available to the everyday collector more then a Geoff. 99% of people cannot buy a $140,000 Steph Curry card at a Show. They ruined the hobby by making boxes……$5,000-$15,000. That’s a joke! I’m sorry…….It’s a joke! They should have very high end products, but most people cannot even buy a regular hobby box. I’m not gonna buy a box for $300.00 and get mostly cardboard junk. They can build sets around the average collector….with big high end chase hits. It can be done.

It’s impossible to find that right balance of supply/demand. If you want something rare then you are going to have scarcity in wax boxes. If you want everyone to be able to buy a wax box, then it won’t be rare. There is no middle ground as either a card is scarce or overproduced. It’s just the ebb and flow of the industry as certain cards are going to be worth more cause of low production runs while other will hit a ceiling because of mass production runs. People will complain either way if the hobby gets too expensive cause they aren’t printing enough or if they fear their cards won’t hold their value cause they are printing too much.

Try making hobby store supply and distributors ability to supply them at affordable pricing instead of feeding the breakers unlimited supplies of everything. It slowly phases out the hobby. If a long time hobby shop is allocated 1 case of flawless how does an online breaker get multiple quantities? Say 50-100 cases it's not right. While increasing a hobby store cost by hundreds of percent

greed almost killed the hobby in the early 90s, having bigger companies gaining a monopoly on the industry doesnt bode well imho. Whats best in the long run often gets lost when you have stockholders demanding profits.

When Fanatics takes over, that's when I'll get back out of the hobby.
