Each number before the song title corresponds to a psalm in the bible: So far, we have Psalms 10, 22 and 33 relating to the arrogance of man, his unworthiness and subsequent distance to God. This is almost a plea of spirituality, of forgiveness, for those things that have gone wrong in Justin's life, his straying away from his roots, and a return to belief, and himself. I don't know if Justin is religious, if not the psalms could be a symbol for his own transgressions to himself. This is laden with so much symbolism and many metaphors, he truly is a genius.
@keko78048 жыл бұрын
exactly. everyone just automatically assumes that things with symbolism are satanic. but that's just what art is
@2kguys8 жыл бұрын
It's art in it's truest form, it's art straight from his heart. His distancing from himself is his blasphemy, his fame pulled him away from his roots. Regardless of what people think of this album or want from it, it's Justin returning to what he most solemnly believes in, a return to himself. The analysis could go on for hours but I'm just eagerly awaiting his magnum opus in 22, a million

+Lysol Cleaner As if there needed to be, there are in fact giant oversized land and sea creatures referred to as actual living breathing moving animals in the more older (2500-3500yr old) biblical books; see: bible.com/1/job.40.15-24.kjv
@lukeromer8 жыл бұрын
Ha - that's hilarious, +Lysol Cleaner. Sound logic. Simple as that - case closed, eh? Have you ever read the Bible? How about doing a simple Google search for "Dinosaurs and the Bible"? Ever tried that out? The term Dinosaur wasn't coined until the 1840's. The writings that comprise the Bible are thousands of years old. There's a Hebrew word, tannin, used throughout scripture - often translated as serpent, dragon, monster, beast. You wanna look into that for maybe 10 minutes before going public with your very astute and scientific grasp of things?

This is what happens when hip hop touches indie folk. I've been following Bon Iver for years now and have always loved his style. But I would've never known Bon Iver had it not been had I not been a fan of Kanye. They've worked on Numerous tracks together. And the fact that they remain who they are creatively but still intertwine what they have gathered from each other musically is a master piece. Bon Iver is on to something here. If you've ever read a complicated yet beautiful novel, a Marquez, a Dostoyevsky, a Faulkner, you might have experienced what it is to feel like you're reading something you don't truly understand. Something, that after so much anticipation, seems like it falls short of your expectations. You might even put the book down for some time and give yourself a moment to process its meaning. Once you come back to it, however, it's suddenly not the same book anymore. What seemed old starts to look new and what seemed mundane starts to look utterly beautiful. You see its beauty, its nuances, its perspicacity. And you finally understand why it's one of the best book you've ever read. Listening to Bon Iver is like reading one of those books. With every song they release they exceed the boundaries of my imagination. Sometimes there will come a song like 33 GOD that I don't fully understand. That I'll put down to give myself some time to process it, even for days, but once I come back to it, it's somehow changed into something so beautiful, so meaningful, so full of magic. To me, Bon Iver's music is a tale of beauty and pain. An ode to life's complexity. And in its attempt to capture this, it pushes the boundaries of space and sound, transporting us to different places in our memories and giving them a different meaning. Bon Iver makes the mundane seem beautiful and the old seem new. Their songs, like magnificent novels, fill the air with wonderful sounds of magic. Thanks Bon Iver, for the gift of beautiful music.

"I think it’s that thing of wanting to bash things apart a little bit and break through some stuff. And I needed it to sound a little radical to feel good about putting something out in the world. For me, it’s not embarrassing, but the old records are of this kind of sad nature-I was healing myself through that stuff. Being sad about something is okay. And then wallowing in it, circling though the same cycles emotionally just feels boring. For this one, there’s still some dark stuff and whatever, but I think cracking things, making things that are bombastic and exciting and also new, and mashing things together, and explosiveness and shouting more, I think that was the zone." A bit of what Justin(Bon Iver) said about this album.

This album along with all his other songs makes me feel really nostalgic (and it’s great music to cry to), and go on long walks in the dark outside, I imagine myself listening to all this whilst walking outside along a dimly lit street near the forest, with rows of streetlights and there’s snow on the ground, and it’s cold and the world is silent and still, with only the sound or passing cars and trains to guide you, and at that moment you notice the small things around you and how peaceful the world can be.

Said I woulda walked across any thousand lands (No not really if you can't) I didn't need you that night Not gonna need you anytime Was gonna take it as it goes I could go forward in the light Well I better fold my clothes it gives me goosebumps every time I hear it sung or read.

My favourite song from the new album. Goosebumps every single time from 2:24 onwards, drumming's brilliant at 2:40 and then those high, unearthly vocals in the background... I'm not gonna try and figure out the lyrics: the music is just absolutely amazing and that's more than enough for me.

Through a Christian lens everything is satanic. They fear what they don't understand. There are many KZbin channels that promote fear of this symbology without any understanding of it.
@ZimmerSquash8 жыл бұрын
starvin marvin But I'm catholic. I agree about the promotion of fear.
@starvinmarvin79648 жыл бұрын
+ZimmerSquash Check out vigilant Christian and a call for an uprising youtube channel. This is where a lot of this fear is coming from. There are many other channels that do this of course, buy these are well known. It's a shame they promote fear the way they do. In my opinion they only push people further away from all religious teachings.
@ZimmerSquash8 жыл бұрын
starvin marvin Thanks for sharing, I'm a lot more aware about these fear-mongering and channels thanks to you! Some would say this song is a little scary or creepy, but those channels are so appalling.
@SamOwenI8 жыл бұрын
it's not really fear mongering though. That would suggest that there is nothing sinister here. At the end of the day, this video is obviously a nod to freemasonry. But though the Masons have lots of power, they are deeply deceived - like you are. You think this is meaningless artistry. But Bon Iver is deceived. Finally, the Vigilant Christian has been in a similar position to Bon Iver in that he used to deal in occult spirituality. There's plenty of info online about what he used to do (think tarot cards, healing crystals, "black magic" etc.) Having come out of it, he wants to help people see that it's deception. And to +ZimmerSquash, I encourage you to read the bible to see how it differs with what the Catholic Church teach. They too deal in occultism. You may want to read the whole of Romans to see what I mean.

Do you like Bon Iver? I've been a big fan ever since the release of his 2007 album, For Emma, Forever Ago. Before that, I really didn't understand any of his work. Too artsy, too intellectual. I think 33 GOD is the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding albums. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Christy, take off your robe.

I paused the song to find out if anyone in the comments section had explained the meaning of the number 33 in the title. Another commenter did indeed post that information. I took a screenshot of it, because God did that thing where he used Bon Iver to completely and totally blow my mind... Because I'd unintentionally and randomly paused the song at exactly 33 seconds. Jeremiah 33:3 - Call to Me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things which thou knoweth not.
@Synrgiii4 жыл бұрын
33 is the 3 threes....or the infinite fractal....draw 3 groups of 3 triangles in an expanding cirlcle and you will have drawn the universe it self. 33 is freemasonic no...not masonic...free...the esoteric belife of the self being the creator and observer at the same time thr 33 is an 8 together. Or infinity. As well as thr 33rd° degree of freemasonry which is of course the temperature that ice melts...our minds in the physical represent a block of ice...solid. heavy. When we thaw, our mental energy or spirit conciousness flows like water. Easy and light
