It's always mind blowing how much emotion these guys can harness. Let's be real, sometimes we have no idea what he's singing about, but we sure as hell feel it.

which is great because we know what he's singing it about as it relates to our lives. When I hear this I think of my own struggles and abandonment of faith. When I hear stuff on For Emma I feel my own heartbreak looming large.

+Candace Suero Simple Man by Shinedown does that with my best friends passing. We played it at his funeral and for the longest time whenever I heard it I would be destroyed. Eventually you will be able to hear this with hope in your heart instead of pain. It's a great song to remember your friend by. Keep your head up, and it wont get easier, but you will heal. I'm sorry for your loss.

WTF? I've been listening to BON IVER's music since "For Emma.." What the heck makes you think that I DON'T LIKE this music? I love it. My response was to someone who called this music "gay". If it's "gay", it's the ultimate compliment to call it "gay" as in "out of the mainstream". AS to your suggestion that I lick a pussy I say "No thanks...I've been there before. Didn't really enjoy it...but all the women I've licked LOVED IT. " Peace out /|\

This is just an idea, but please consider for one tiny moment this one thing. If you didn't both love it then your not doing it right. I am tempted to say at least you are halfway there. Except. 1 + 1 = 3. 1 out of 3 is a start though.

"They were enjoying it and laughing, but at a certain point, they just got quiet. When it was over, Justin started humming. We talked afterwards about the relationship between Zach’s character and his brother [Josh Gad], and Justin and Nate talked a little about their father - all the while Justin kept distractedly humming. Eventually, he sang out the words ‘heavenly father.’ Before I even left their house, Justin was recording the first version of the song in his downstairs studio. His inspiration was that immediate." - Mary Ramos (Music supervisor for the movie Wish You Were Here) on Justin Vernon

Heard about a day where it dropped the know To go another day as we learn to close 'Cause I'm a known coward in a coward wind But you're free now You turn around now and you count to 10 To see you go now Well I know now honey that I can't pretend Heavenly father Is whose brought to his autumn And love is left in end I just been up here for god damn years Can you see now? Filling up hulls with god damn fears I am free now I know about it darlin', I've been standin' here Heavenly father Is all that he offers A safety in the end.

@@Sayre777 it absolutely does. I'm 29 now, been happily married 5 years, have a beautiful 2 yr old daughter with another on the way, and I have a shore-based job now so I don't spend long patrols at sea anymore. We got through some of those tough years together and abided by the maxim: "Distance is to love as wind is to fire; it extinguishes the small and ignites the great" Hang in there, keep a long-term perspective, love others, and most importantly love yourself. And keep listening to Bon Iver

It’s so easy now, for me, to just think I’ve failed. I took a few heavy hits in what feels like a life time ago. As I get a little older, a little wiser though, I’ve noticed something, something new. It’s like in spite of my failings, my flaws and my pains - I’m getting stronger, like the depth of the hole I’ve found myself maybe isnt so steep anymore. Maybe there’s a life for me somewhere, maybe.

In the live version there is much more punch. I prefer the drums and the bass tones in the NPR live version. Of course the acapella version trumps all. Still one of the greatest recordings of this decade

Justin's lyrics are consistently tight. Like some of the best hip hop albums can't top this. I know its weird to say hip hop but the genre is heavy lyric based, which i was going by. Anyways i get why Kanye is in Love with Justin.

I so vividly remember listening to this song for the first time. i was absolutely coming off the high of For Emma and Blood Bank and Bon Iver and 100% felt like this song as a follow-up to those was a huge disappointment. Little did I realize it was actually the best song he would ever write.

That's the kind of thing that people say when they've never tried any drugs. Mildly exhilarated due to lovely music is nothing compared to the euphoria that some recreational drugs can provide. Combine the two and that's where the sweet spot is.
@thriceconcussed1
@thriceconcussed1 5 жыл бұрын
@@Syklonus That's what someone who is dependent on the fleeting machinations of the flesh would say. A true high is something transformative, and deeply meaningful. The effects of drugs are impermanent, carnal, and appealing only to our animal natures. I say that as someone who has gone on a bender with nearly every drug imaginable (as long as needles were not involved). Euphoric sensations are available to worms. Why would an individual who is blessed by being a member of the only fully conscious species in the known universe reduce his or herself to the illusory pleasures of the senses?

Who can think of this stuff? It’s as if the music is God ordained, like the Heavens themselves open up for a brief time to sound off. The modern Gregorian chant.

Went to see Bon Iver 2 weeks ago in Asheville, NC for their end of tour. When Justin introduced this song he said the song is about how there is no God…And the sooner we realize it, the safer we will all be here. 4th time watching their shows, will be back for more.
