Francis Farewell Starlite has been in the game for a while know. not only as his own work in "Francis And The Lights " but he has also produced tracks for famous artist. karaoke by Drake , summer by Chance, and a couple of tracks on the social experiment album Surf. he also wrote the score to the movie "Robot And Frank" . I was first introduced to his music by Vampire Weekend former keys player Rostam. in 2010 he suggested listening to Francis and the lights new album at the time called " It'll Be Better" every track on this album is fire. the hit single off that album was "For Days" what a kickass track. his voice reminds me of Phil Collins. great artist right here, and it's so cool that he works with all these new icons. much love and respect to him and the artist that fuck with him:) #love #realmusic

I could be completely wrong but here's my interpretation - I haven't checked Genius & I've honestly never commented on any video but this touched me... I kind of see Kanye, Francis & Justin as versions of one character... So at the start, we see Kanye slowly moving & bopping to the beat - he doesn't look too interested & seems to be holding back - although he's dancing, he's kind of keeping to himself...the lines 'separate loans, separate codes' indicate that although him & his partner are in a relationship, they're not really together - physically & emotionally - so Kanye dancing this way captures the idea that he's not really committed to the relationship - he's more interested in keeping to himself...Interesting to note that Kanye stops moving at the line "cause dead right can go wrong' - alluding to the end of his relationship - the camera now shifts focus to Francis... Francis is kind of prancing around, overtly dancing - maybe representing the initial sense of freedom he felt after the breakup. Quickly, the prancing stops when he walks & sits down on the ladder - the breakup has really only hit him now - he sits & reflects - soul-searching. He then gets up & walks into the black space - dancing carelessly & recklessly to represent that he's in a dark & destructive mental place - doing anything & everything to release his anger & sadness. Francis then walks back into the white space - signifying that he's come out of that really dark mental place. He stops walking around, takes a breath & closes his eyes - once again, soul-searching - reflecting on the changes he hopes & wants to make. The camera moves back to show Justin standing beside Francis - both begin dancing. I don't think it's important to analyse their specific moves, I see their routine as a way to express their vulnerability & highlight the fact that they're opening up & stepping out of their comfort zone - their routine's pretty basic & isn't perfectly executed but what's most important is that they're willing to try - knowing they will look kind of goofy in the process. By doing this, Francis & Justin show they don't take themselves too seriously which is a massive contrast to Kanye's masculine & withdrawn persona at the start...Again, interesting to note that Francis & Justin begin dancing & literally turn around on the line 'I will turn around for you' - the dance & line becomes a physical & emotional statement. That's pretty much the gist of what I want to share - like I said, I could be wrong but this is my interpretation - I love Justin, Bon Iver, Francis, Kanye, this song & this video - their new song 'Take Me To The Light' is just as beautiful. i've recently got into a bit of a hole with bon iver; constantly listening and reading and watching. i found this song in a video about bon ivers and kanyes collabrations and now i can't stop listening. the lyrics, the melody, the way yours and vernons voices and techniques compliment each other so well, this song is really incredible. francis, i loved 'may i have this dance' but this is outstanding, the work you put into it really pays off and i really admire your ways of working with music and challenging the usual tones and sounds we hear. i can't wait to delve into more of your tunes. big love

For the people saying "why are people loving this video?" and "this is such an overrated piece of garbage" and "the lyrics and video are simple." Let me first point out music is subjective. With that in mind - some of the reasons this is the best song/video of the year thus far: 1) it's soulful as fuck; 2) the production is so crisp and clear; 3) while the lyrics are simple, there is still a profoundness to them (i.e., "I can't remember what it's like to never want to let go" - that particular line hit me hard); 4) the video represents one moment in time - no edits - just raw (and the scenes like @1:27 - @1:37 and @2:16 forward just make me (and I'm sure a lot of people) feel quite good). Like I said, in my opinion, this is the video and song of the year thus far.
