Francis is actually a great singer, pianist and producer. He has a Peter Gabriel type voice as well as a falsetto style. But, as a producer, especially involving other artists, laying vocals down is one thing, but when it comes to performance there are times that (what others hear as him not being a good singer) is actually him trying to reproduce the magic he produced in the studio. And this song is just one of them that he goes from his Gabriel type voice to falsetto. What I'm saying is, he produced it this way, but now it's shows a challenge at times going from Gabriel voice to falsetto, especially with the noise you hear in concert and the movement he puts into it. I guess I'm saying, from a singer/songwriter/producer standpoint, sometimes the art and magic that comes to life in the studio isn't as easy at times to recreate live. When you're a producer, you may run into this issue often. Having said that, I think he's the number one thing now, to me and many others. The crowd eats him up. I think he's a great singer, search other live songs, earlier ones too. He's innovative and bringing a style, musically and performance wise that we haven't seen anything quite like. He's a one of a kind and he's one of the best. I hope he continues to churn out more as good as this one and others on that record.

I have just discovered francis through this song. Wow i can't stop listening to all of his music you are absolutely right, he is a great singer, songwriter, the whole lot. Other live clips clearly prove he can be a magnificent enertainer, just varies with different venues and nights i guess. Its my dream to see him live one day.

That’s a great way to excuse someone who can’t stay on key. But I do agree that he’s an awesome songwriter and producer. But this guy couldn’t sing if his life depended on it. Long live Justin Vernon, who can, most definitely, sing live.👍

I mean really, saying that Francis is a great singer is kind of like saying Justin Vernon is a great dancer, LOL. We all have our strengths and weaknesses as artists.
