To everyone bitching about the weird lyrics... Apparently he composes the music first, coming up with a melody without words and humming it along with the guitar, and then fits words to sounds he already made. Hence his lyrics are totally different from what you mighty find in a normal rock/pop song, and why it kinda sounds like gibberish until you slow down and take it word by word. It's as if the shape of words and the emotion they carry is almost more important than the literal meaning or strict rhyme structure.

This is one of his more straight-forward songs, lyrically. Bon Iver, Bon Iver and 22, A Million had much harder to decipher lyrics, arguably nonsense...but as Vernon says himself, the sound is what's important to him. That said, every line in this song makes sense. It's one of his more coherent songs.

There are at least 76 people that apparently have their monitor upside down and consequently think they have given this a "thumbs up". That's the only logical explanation. Or they all just suck at recognizing awesome when it's presented. That's also possible.

Lyrics: Sold my cold knot A heavy stone Sold my red horse for a venture home To vanish on the bow -- Settling slow Fit it all, fit it in the doldrums (Or so the story goes) Color the era Film it, it's historical My mile could not Pump the plumb In my arbor 'till my ardor Trumped every inner inertia Lump sum All at once Rushing from the sub-pump (Or so the story goes) Balance we won't know We will see when it gets warm

I wonder if people will one day realize that his lyrics are often akin to great poetry, reading him is like reading Seamus Heany. I can't think of another lyricist who makes me think: where did he even begin to put that idea into words? Too beautiful for this life...

years, even the first time I listen to it. Only a few bands can make me feel this way, and I feel the feeling is a result of absolute chemistry. The musicians are so tight with their sound, that if you pull one note out of place, the entire piece changes. Its that feeling of gratification that I love. Knowing that four or five guys worked their ass off to make something perfectly tight, that you can ebb and flow with the pattern of the song, and become entranced by each beat.

I am not moved by short-lived trends and gimmicks, I am moved by hard work, dedication, and mastery. Your foolish is you see anything timeless about this. If it was, it would have already dominated the business years ago, when "folk-rock" was growing in popularity.

it will never go away. The feeling will always be provoked when the circumstances are met. When me and her broke up, I realized that no matter what girls I was with or whatever, I would only be satisfied with one. That there is one perfect set of traits out there that are just for me, or a few, but still, a small amount, that not any girl could give, and that "love" is a word that should never be used lightly. So no, I have never really been in love with anything besides music I guess.

I think all three bands are unique and distinct. Bon Iver sounds like he incorporates a lot of soul and even jazz at times. Mumford and Sons sound like old yet fresh English folksters and Fleet Foxes sound like well folk. You can't really compare MS with Bon Iver and the same goes with FF as well but I could see the comparison between MS and FF. But overall all three are great and they deliver powerful and emotional messages and that's all I need.

I enjoy mellow-type music like Bon Iver, but what really is great about music is its potential to invoke great passion into a listener. I have said it many times before, but feel that when you hear a song, the song is a result of that artist pouring every bit of his emotion into the song, and giving it to its audience. So as the performer gets exhausted of this energy, I am gaining it. That is truly what I love about music.

Should be fun! The reason I love music, is because it allows me to step away an entire another world. It requires focus, and self-awareness, and concentrating on that, allows me to forget my woes of the day, and pour the remaining energy I have into it. That is why I love playing music. Why I love listening to the music, is because I feel I can connect to the people playing it in the same way. When I become absorbed by the music, I feel I can hear each individual note as If i had known it for...
@Blackhammer99
@Blackhammer99 15 жыл бұрын
and no matter how many times I hear a song, or see a performance, whenever I feel that way, I know I truly love that music. However, you have to be in the right state of mind to let things like that happen, so obviously a dimly lit room makes the process a little more intense, and drugs, even more so. But that is why I love music. Because the artist is giving 100 percent of what they have, and I am receiving it. If not, I don't love it, plain and simple. I may like it, but if I don't feel that..

Can't argue with that! But I find it hard to feel the same way about something so simple, when I have heard so many great artists who give hours upon hours to one song, especially myself knowing how difficult it is to really write a good song. At least you were stern enough with your idea to represent it. Keep enjoying music your way, my friend, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. =)
