Birdy is just chirping about it...this guy lived it.

I thought Birdy's rendition of the song was really good, but this is one of those songs where no cover will ever match the original. The emotion he pours into this just can't be emulated.

I never knew anyone ever gave her credit for anything but doing a GREAT cover of a GREAT song. I don't like (not even close to "hating") how some people get so upset that a little girl (I think she was like 15 when she did her cover) did a cover of a great song. Some silly shit imho.
@erikahansen69595 жыл бұрын
I don't think any true Birdy fan gives her credit for it because they know her first album (save 1 song) was all covers. But as I said elsewhere, she created an arrangement of this song that is used almost universally by many singers (particularly on shows like The Voice and American Idol). Both versions are amazing and there's no need to say one's better. And props to him for creating a song everyone wants to sing, including Birdy.

@NakedSnake028 жыл бұрын
+Eilyn González I think that's probably the flaw of large scaled concerts- they elicit a certain mood that's only compatible with certain genres of music. A song like Skinny Love isn't suited for a platform like Glastonbury. It's best heard if you're alone or with a limited amount of people that can appreciate the ambience of the song.
@adamotway39376 жыл бұрын
I'm going to assume you have never been to glastonbury, the ambience of this song is not lost on this scale, its amplified, do yo uknow how stuck up you sound saying people are to high and dumb to apprecaite it, MUSIC is for everyone to appreciate it what ever way they see fit thats the appeal of it, it not some elitist subject, music is for the masses, something that seems to be lost on your opinions and ears.

Elvis & Frank never wrote a song - but knew how to perform them - some artists out there write a basic song and don't really perform it to it's full effect - Birdy covered a number of songs and changed the perception of the lyric's meaning - bringing them alive with emotion that was not there prior - and that from a kid of 12-13-14 is something worthy of praise and recognition - she then release an album of new compositions which are of a considerably high standard - youtube is infested with mean rotten little fucks who spend their entire existence trolling to vent their bile -
@sjsh58379 жыл бұрын
There is absolutely no way you can think that Birdy's version has more emotion than this. I'm all for personal opinions but this is fact
@anthonynewsome9 жыл бұрын
Sj Sh a fact you believe - and I know that Birdy's version is much much better - when hearing the BI version first I didn't even listen - when I here Birdy sing it however she brings what is a simple lyric to life raising to a standard -
@ryanbennett13399 жыл бұрын
Birdy's version is inconsistent with the ideas presented in the song. Skinny Love is pretty poetic, filled with repetition, which is presented as intense, as though it's a frustration that's bursting from the seams. This is reflected by the writer and performer Justin Vernon, as he wrote it in frustration in his retreat to loneliness fueled by breakup of his band and his relationship. It's not a clean piano riff, or clean vocals, it's a culmination that bursts from its foundations in the chorus. The drums pound, the guitar is smacked, and the notes are a tad inconsistent, but its okay because emotions aren't supposed to be clean. If you can't appreciate his emotions, and claim them as wrong, then you simply can't appreciate the true emotion felt by Justin. Birdy's version is sang as a reflection, as though its contemplated. Skinny Love, by the lyrics, is a plea of frustration and unfiltered pain.
@anthonynewsome9 жыл бұрын
Ryan Bennett you are entitled to your opinion indeed - as I said above Birdy's version gives these basic lyrics a level of meaning that Justin can not - as she recorded this at 12 or such - she has brought this song to new ears who would have otherwise ignored it -
@sjsh58379 жыл бұрын
anthonynewsome Sure she has, but it doesn't mean it's a better performance. Glee brought Bohemian Rhapsody to a whole new audience, but it was bloody awful
