Here is my explanation of the difference between versions. My girlfriend loves Birdy's cover. And I love the original. My explanation to her is this: the young girl's version is very beautiful and she is obviously talented. However, the original has the force and power that makes the song four levels ahead.

Just so everyone knows... he's an indie musician, not a hipster musician. Bon Iver means good winter. His real name is Justin Vernon. He did For Emma, Forever Ago all by himself with his own instruments (except for his brother's drum kit). He was popular after he won a grammy, but he was popular and loved in the indie scene long before pop culture recognized him as the fantastic artist that he is. Yeah... he was in New Moon(Roslyn) with Annie Clark of St. Vincent, but we still love him.

The resonator appears to be a very old National either brass or copper bodied with a new tailpiece put on it. Newer ones dont have the slotted headstock that was popular back in the delta blues period. I'd say it could be a 1940s at the oldest

Not sure if you know this but you can also also give your songs a percussion backing on an acoustic. Newton Faulkner does that a lot and Ben Howard. It truly is amazing how the most simple songs sound the best though.
