This song was recorded before Bon Jovi was a band. It was just Jon Bon Jovi and studio musicians. Tim Pierce who is a legendary studio musician did all the guitar on this song. He has a KZbin channel and talks about the making of this song. You all should check it out.

And when they did create Bon Jovi. John was the only one with a record contract, he was smart, made the rest of the band filthy rich but had complete control.

@@auralfixxation6702 Yes, he is amazing, and probably the most humble man you’ll ever meet! When I subscribed to his channels years ago, he had less than 5k subscribers and I’m loving that his channel has grown so well and took lessons from him for about a year. That was a phenomenal guitar solo on this song and after watching almost every video he’s made, you can really see him playing that due to all his nuances. Have a great day!

Never even heard of this song!! I'm dead serious 😐. I've always considered Bon Jovi, White Snake, and many others during the big-hair band days all pretty much sounded all the same-just commercial bands and songs. Not distinctive, nor nothing to make them stand out! If you want to hear bands in this era, an absolute must is to hear those that sets them apart from the same type of sound and pretty much sounding all the same! I suggest that listening to bands that have a distinct lead singer and a sound all their own that when you hear that band there is no doubt whatsoever who you are listening to!! My all-time favorites are: Lover boy, April Wine, Triumph, Billy Squire, Journey, Gun's and Roses, Def Leppard, John Cougar-Melloncamp, and many other classics...not putting Bon Jovi down by no means, just my own opinion is all. Have a great day everyone 😉😉😉

@@rhondamcbath6279 Triumph is one of my favorite bands of all time. I have all their albums. Great musicians, Great songs, Great albums. I also like Loverboy, April Wine, Journey and old Def Leppard. I,m not a fan of Bon Jovi. Their first album is the best. Whitesnake was a real good blues rock band in the 80s. Before they went more mainstream. And released their most succesful album in their career. 1987. But to be honest, i really like this album. Great songs and David Coverdale at his best. One of my favorite bands from the hair metal era is Dokken. They had a sound of their own. Great songs and a real good guitar player. George Lynch.

@@rhondamcbath6279 That's blaintly obvious because of the time back then, Bon Jovi was one of the million bands that did the same thing in the glam metal - arena rock period from early 80s to late 80s.. Later on, when grunge appeared, they've changed and their catalogue was more diverse and interesting apart from the first four albums... Keep the Faith, These Days, Crush, Lost Highway - all of these mentioned albums prove my point and that's way Bon Jovi cemented their place in rock history and why were they different and still successful today. Many bands that stayed w glam metal roots don't exist nowadays or fill small arenas. Have a nice day.

This album, 7800° Fahrenheit, came out in 85 & they hadn't quite found their own lane yet. They were still borrowing heavily from other "safe" pop rock bands of the era, like Loverboy & Survivor - but with the added sex appeal of Billy Squire. The synth here even reminds me of Journey a bit. You could tell they were onto something, but still kind of all over the place stylistically. But then, just ONE year later, they released their worldwide smash Slippery When Wet, which was certified DIAMOND in both the US (12M sold) & CAN (10M). Multi-platinum sales also in AUS (6M), UK (3M), SWI (2M), and Platinum just about everywhere else!

This is from their 1984 debut album "Bon Jovi," but I agree that they hadn't yet found their sound on either of those first two albums of theirs. I think that Bruce Fairbairn (the producer that they switched to for Slippery When Wet) deserves a huge amount of credit for helping them find that sound. Every song on Slippery When Wet and New Jersey was so slickly produced (perhaps too slickly produced for fans of raw, non-studio-sounding rock, but not for me).

Just FYI, if you weren't aware, electronic keyboards were not capable of making piano sounds in the 80's, which is why they were called "synthesizers". As technology advanced and they became able to replicate a true piano sound, they started calling them electronic/electric keyboards.

The story I recall is John was working at a recording studio as a gofor and janitor. He was very humble and would bend over backwards to help, no matter what was asked of him. All the musicians liked him. He showed a few of them this song he'd written and they got together to help him record it for free. John took the demo around to all the New York and New Jersey radio stations, trying to get anyone to listen. One of the stations, WAPP (The Apple) had a contest for unsigned talent. Runaway won the contest, got airplay, Mercury Records took notice and Bongiovi got a record deal.

This whole first album is "different Bon Jovi vibe" and I wish they could have done more music under this construction/design. However, this could be considered "transitional 70s/80s rock" and would therefore need to change to stay with the times. "She Don't Know Me" is another great song from this album release. He may have done sessions for Rick Springfield, not sure, but I know for his first big album with Jessie’s Girl, it was Neil Geraldo. Pat Benetar’s guitarist and husband, not Tim. It’s not unusual to have different session musicians for different tracks on the same album, so that is possible too. I know Rick wanted to play it himself but the producer brought Neil instead. Neil plays the bass on Jessie’s Girl too and Rick plays some keys.

@@joelhammond4162 Tim toured with Rick for four years all over the world and they are best of friends, and also played almost every guitar part for his albums too. I am familiar with Neil as Tim did a video with him as they are good friends also and regarded him as one of the best guitarist he’s ever known; and it’s quite obvious when you listen to him play on all of Pat’s songs. He married Pat fairly early in her career if I’m not mistaken.

Omg! This first song of theirs made me absolutely a fan. I was obsessed with Jon Bon Jovi. It's s so sad that his voice is completely destroyed now. However he aged like fine wine, still married to his high school sweetheart and is a wonderful humanitarian. He really needs to hang it up tho as much as I hate to say it. Still love me some JBJ tho
