Gerard Pique talks about how Jose Mourinho and the Real Madrid Barcelona rivalry crossed over to the Spanish national team and that they had to repair relationships to triumph in the 2012 Euros. ElClasicos between 2010 and 2012 were very heated and aggressive. #shorts #football #soccer #spain #barcelona #realmadrid

Two club rivalry vs 4-5 club rivalry, the England team was never balanced because either Gerrard or Lampard needed to be benched, we dont understand how to use players like Scholes and Joe Cole, the English style of football isn't suited to international/Euro club football, while the Spanish style is absolutely perfect. I forgot we are crap at penalties. Also, this Spain team was absolutely stacked beyond anything England have ever had. Our best ever XI would struggle against 2010-12 Spain.

@@BeBe-vh4ryyeah you said it perfectly tbh. Only thing I’d add is that there is a lack of English managers at top teams (not that they’re bad but I just can’t really name one who’s better than someone like Luis Enrique) and no team has won wc without a native manager. Our current manager seems to be more focused on keeping his mates in the team actually allowing younger, better players to flourish and play well.
@jal051

@@BeBe-vh4ry Spain was crap at penalties before this generation too. At the end of the day being good at penalties is a matter of having great quality players to shoot them. Also, a player shouldn't have too much power inside the national team. Getting rid of Raúl and letting the next generation on their own was also a definitive step. Raúl had good intention, but he tried to control the team.
@BeBe-vh4ry
@BeBe-vh4ry 6 ай бұрын
@@jal051 I think penalties are 80% mental; the players at international level can all easily hit a penalty from a technical perspective. The England players walk to the spot thinking 'oh god, I really hope I don't miss this and get ridiculed for it for years after' whereas the Spanish players were probably thinking 'I can't wait to smash this penalty in the top corner and become a legend'. Being terrified of failure makes you much more likely to fail; until England can change mentality the pens will keep going into row Z.

One of the mistakes of England's golden generation was that they thought playing Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard together would be dominant midfielders. But they forget that Gerrard played with Xabi, Lampard with Essien/Makelele, Scholes with Keane/Carrick. But in the national team, Carrick didn't even play. Meanwhile, Spain played with two of the best defensive midfielders in the world, Xabi and Busquets.

He's only talking about Ramos, because he said they were cool with Iker, and nobody else made the Spanish squad except for these two from Real. And he's right. Remember Ramos before Jose, he was a soft soyboy, getting slapped around by Salgado and other older Real players. Then Mou came, turned him into a center back, and something changed in him. He became much more aggressive, created this macho image of himself, got buff, even cut his hair and grew a beard. Jose basically turned a bullied kid into a bully.

1/2 It was not just barca players like this Pique. Real Madrid players blamed him as well. I wrote this already. But see -Mourinho in his hatred towards Barcelona poisoned so much of Spanish players that it broke their relationship apart. Casillas was the first one who tried to mend the tension in national level. And became Mourinho's enemy. He started indirectly calling him coward and snake and traitor. Casillas left in utter disgrace where the fans of Real Madrid hated him in his last days. But his sacrifice was worth it. Players like Ramos who was Mourinho's lapdog initially broke free of his control. He actively started to better relationship. Not only that he and couple of others wanted Mourinho gone as his toxicity destroyed them. Mourinho till this day blame ramos and Casillas for his sacking. But the failed 2014 wc was wake up call for many Spanish players and the reality of dmg. And Real Madrid for the first time in 4 years started to actually play rather than break legs and accumulate cards. And they won't have to wait for long till their golden prodigy Zidane comes back. Spain on the other hand lost their golden generation to infighting. And their next generation was not ready yet.

2/2 And if you ever wonder from where this hatred for Barcelona comes from in Mourinho. You have to go back 10 years ago. When Mourinho was an assistant coach there. He came under Boby and then appointed by Van Gaal. He knew Barcelona very well. When FCB was deciding for new coach after Rykaard he was the primary candidate. Till the very last day he was sure to win the decision. But at the very late Cruyff vouched for previously untested coach Pep Guardiola. Which came out of nowhere. Mourinho believed that this decision came because he was part of Bobby and Van Gaal entourage. And he was not happy to be denied the very best La Massia graduates whom he knew very well. Don't forget valdes, puyol, Iniesta, xavi all of these had debut for FCB before Rykaard. Either in B team or under Van Gaal. The rage was understandably normal for Mourinho. And it didn't help that the untested coach Pep turned out to be a genius as well. So there you go. A little refreshers for everyone. I don't want to talk about the enemity between van Gaal and Cruyff though. Hopefully everyone knows it.

Busquets Alonso Xavi Iniesta Silva Fabregas Cazorla Mata J.Martinez Senna in midfield not to mention Villa, Torres, Pedro, Navas in attack with Puyol, Ramos, Pique, Capdevila, Arbeloa, Albiol later Alba in defence and then Iker Valdes Reins in fkn goal like the levels of the squad overall has simply never been matched before or after.

Reminder that Brazil reached 3 WC Finals from 1994-2002 and won the WC twice. Things only done by Brazil. Also add Copa Americas, they truly dominated.

@pauliewalnuts5803 I know, but he should be remembered like a world-class striker that carried his team to a World Cup title. How many strikers did that? C.Ronaldo never did that, Messi needed 5 world cups to achieve that. I always felt he was underrated while guys like Xavi and Iniesta were terribly overrated.

Don’t understand why he mentions Mourinho negatively but doesn’t mention that, Barcelona had the whole refereeing association under their thumb and Pep as manager who is managing a team currently with 115 charges of cheating?

115 Charges of cheating? None of it true. And none of it is proven. It’s all fake accusation. While Madrid has widely known to use Reff to cheat in UCL and Laliga. Obviosuly. I can press charge you 115 times just make reports😂.

@herbertromero5716 It does matter a bit. He just illustrates that although Mourinho is depicted as the source of the problem, Guardiola also is partially at fault. And he uses Man City as an argument for that. I don't see the problem to be honest
