Notice in the early part of the episode where Joe and the guest star put on chaps when they get on the bronco. But when they do a close up of them on the horse, there are no chaps? Part of Bonanza's charm were the little bloopers that were left in the show. Love it. My favorite show ever.

TVs were low resolution then, so they could get away with editing, props, sets and stunt doubles, which would look ridiculous today. They used wide angle lenses to make Virginia City look larger. In reality, it's just a few acres in the back lot of Paramount, with a fake mountain, and a fake sky to hide other buildings.

Bonanza and High Chaporal were the 2 westerns they showed on BBC2 that loved watching, I liked the stories and characters they featured they made you feel they were like part of your family. I wanted a big brother like "Horse" Cartwight he was always my favourite character, sadly the actor who played him died a few years ago.

Lorne Greene must have been terrifying to work with if they were afraid to stop and reset.

Bonanza one of the best westerns in that 15 years or more of the TV western craze. After seeing a lot of them, nothing is great all the time, but I surely got tired of Lil' oe...skinny big mouth, hitting people all the time, thinks the girls want him all the time, downright too much of one character that was low on the scale of the better actors and characters. It reminds me of how Gunsmoke brought in "festus," that almost nobody else would ever pick up to star in anything...and he was, like the Cartright baby, used way too much in an otherwise good show. Adam and Hoss are my favorites, Ben a distant 3rd. Michael Landon never belonged in Bonanza..."House on the Prairie" was better for him. Pernell Roberts was THE star and too bad other people in the business never found Roberts the ideal show to be in, he was great.

Jack Lambert, playing the gang leader (killed by Little Joe) was gunfighter Kin Creed in one of the very best Gunsmoke episodes ever, "There Never Was a Horse". Gunsmoke's third season. Gunfighter Kin Creed outdrew Marshal Matt Dillon but refused to kill him, townspeople mocked & taunted Matt.
