Still staying with Sig 180g V-Crown. TTO tested the Sig rounds at 1275fps from his 3.8” and over 1300fps from his 5”. Sig says 1250 fps. I guess Sig underreports?

I've always wanted a 10mm but the recoil from full-power loads is too much for me to enjoy. If I'm going to use it, I ain't using low-power ammo. Might as well be shooting a 45ACP, 40S&W, or 9mm +P+. But I am reminded of the guy who used a 454 Casul in a bear attack. Fired 6 shots as fast as he could and felt nothing.

One of my "woods" weapon is a G20 with Underwood 200gr FMJ. I've actually went to the G22 with a similar 180gr load, the .40 is plenty in the Eastern woodlands running around the Appalachian Mountains. I still love the 10mm, but the 22 is a tad lighter to carry ounces equals pounds..

Glad I picked up some of these a few years ago before they quit making them. I think I have 4 or 5 boxes left after verifying function in my gun. Wish Speer would make a factory loading in 10mm that was a real full house loading not a glorified 40s&w, since the bonded bullet seems to hold up ok to the velocity as proven by these underwood loads.

I wonder if Speer realized that this bullet would STILL be the gold standard in bullets 44 years after its invention? I love and own both the G20 and G29. That Speer Gold Dot is a classic for self defense as demonstrated in this test. For woods defense I would prefer a little bit more penetration like what is offered in the XTP, but to be honest I would probably feel pretty good with those Gold Dots in the woods also. Devastating terminal performance. I love UW.

If what I have seen, only two in my life, and was told by a now retired military munitions testing and development engineer (a civilian contract employee with degrees in chemistry and mechanical engineering) is still true "test barrels" tend to have more in common with artillery pieces, in terms of breech design and the barrels START at about six inches and run out to forty-five inches depending on the small arm(s) any particular cartridge was intended for. The two "test barrels" I saw were for sale as "used in fair condition" for more money, EACH, than I made in a year, so I just kept walking and bought some hand tools that I could afford at that military surplus auction. The two "test barrels" were in 5.56mm and .50cal respectively and reminded me a lot of WWI French 75mm "fast firing" artillery pieces in terms of the breach design. The retired engineer described similar, but stronger, test barrels that he had worked with. In other words, I think the ammo companies might be fudging the numbers a bit in some if not most cases. By the way, I still miss the CorBon "Flying Ashtrays" in +P of the 1970s-1980s. They worked! They worked very, very well indeed! Crazy expansion! Side note...I noticed that 10mm knocking your clothing barrier off. You might want to consider using a couple of 3-0 or 4-0 fish hooks to hold it in place. I think it might hold better than a safety pin because of the barb on the hook.

Once bullet show ANY breakup or separation Speer consider it a failure. Looks damn good to me. Still have a bunch in various calibers. Xtreme Defender my first choice but would never poo poo any Gold Dot.

Found ammo I wonder if you could test, it's right up your alley. It's Oath Ammo, 10mm 1375fps 695fp...expands to 1 1/2". This stuff looks to be devastating. $30 a box seems a good price I'd love to see what it does in gel.

I know this is a 10mm video, but I have something to say about .40s&w. I have a friend who is a die hard 9mm fan, no biggie, its a good round. He is to the point where he puts every other round down, hard, makes fun of everything else. I took him shooting and I have a small dualing tree. His 9 would move the padels sure, but the 40 would smack them so hard the paddles would fling over to his side and then have enough energy to come back to mine. It was really violent. Its just a small tree, but I looked at him and said "you can't tell me these two rounds are the same" he started going into +p and all that, and I told him 40 comes in +p too. I hope it humbled him a little, It gets annoying talking to someone like that.
