I used to work at a shelter and we once had a spaniel puppy who was supposed to be put down. Why? Her leg was run over by a four-wheeler and her owners didn’t want a 3 legged dog. We couldn’t save her leg, it had to be amputated. But after she healed she was adopted very quickly

That can also have to do with the fact that nowadays there is health insurance for pets. With or first two cats we‘ve had major expenses over the years, but I am thankful that we never had to decide whether we could afford to save their lives$. Our third one is going to be insured (and hopefully we won‘t need it).

I love this show so much, but one episode had me quit watching for some time. There was a dog where the vet was really giving strong hints that euthanasia would be best.. why? Dog was born with the same condition I was. I was so mad, and bawling my eyes out. Took a long time to come back.

Glad Waffle got a set of wheels. He so happy. Thankful that Eddie is liking his new diet. Prayers for healing for Hero and Bear. Glad Tammy is healed from her surgery. My parents had the same breed as Tammy. Expect she was grey and very small for her size. Her name was Lady Fluff. Unfortunately she passed away many yrs ago. 😔 Rip Lady Fluff.

It feels like the editors forgot to put it in. I feel like the editing of these episodes have gotten a little sloppy, I’ve noticed some volume mixing mistakes as well in some other Coast to Coast episodes; such as where the narrator is overpowered by the music for example.

I felt for Hero. I think his front unformed leg needs to be removed as it’s causing him to throw his body wrongly. Which would not help his back legs. I just saw Sash do a surgery once it helped dog move better.

I have Ehlers Danlos an my patella In both legs disslocate a lot, it is very painful. Poor hero🥺 I can't imagine my patella being constantly in the wrong place

What I don’t quite understand is how two people who work a job in veterinary healthcare can allow a pug, of all breeds, to become that overweight. These guys have trouble breathing to begin with, does he need those extra rolls to press on his airways? Why is obesity in pets treated as normal, so often? Unlike a human’s weight, which is their own personal business, a pet’s weight is a human’s responsibility to keep in check. They are entirely dependant on you to receive a decent diet. Please *for the love of God* do not let them down. Their little joints are sensitive enough as is. Why is this, in a vet show of all places, rarely mentioned? Or worse, treated as funny or cute? Edit: And I wrote this before Eddie came in, another breed extremely sensitive to back and joint problems. At least it is slightly less shocking with an owner that isn’t *literally a vet*. And a gut problem makes you want to feed the dog back to strength real fast just in case he begins to starve from gut problems again. Doesn’t mean it’s fine, but… not nearly as embarassing as letting your dog get overweight when you, yourself, are a vet.

Our bed has been on the floor since our dogs were around 6 years old. We had one small short term limp from a jump and that was it. We have also paid way too much rent to stay in our one story house for them. They didn't choose us we chose them so we owe it to them to provide them with everything they need. Rescue dogs and pets in general give so much to us we have to do whatever we can.

Edited for clarity Tooth cleaning ! My personal soapbox. Dogs need their teeth cleaned every day, just like we do. Do you think we could chew hard biscuits to clean our teeth ? Just get a tasty dog toothpaste and start slowly. Make it a routine and your dog will beg you to brush his teeth. It really makes it easy to get into a good habit. Begin with letting the dog have a bit of toothpaste for you being allowed to touch his canines. Go really slowly, start with a finger brush on his canines and be grateful for each success you achieve. You will be blessed with beautifully fresh breath from your animal and no vet bills for dental work. And your dog will be healthier. Anyway, I’ve enjoyed this moment on my soapbox. If I can change just one person's mind, it has all been worth it

We've been trying to brush my dogs teeth lately, she'd about 10 now so it's a little late but we saw a ton of plaque and wanted to try and care for her teeth to see if maybe it'd get better; it's been working a little but her teeth are a little stained and gross so it'll take a bit of time to scrub that away.

@@testerwulf3357 you’ll have to go to the dentist and get that removed. Then you can start with a clean slate. My Posey was 5 when she first got her teeth done (she was a rescue) and she was so grateful that I was taking care of her teeth now. She must have been in terrible pain. Unfortunately the dental cleaning costs. Ask for their rates, can you pay over time etc but don’t neglect it. 10 is when problems start showing up. Best of luck. I can tell you really love your dog

It sounds like Tammy the Cat had a very similar injury to American Football Players, an ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) tear. Luckily we have decades of study and experience treating that in Humans. Hopefully that transfers over to other critters.

How dare you downplay the fact that Waffles’ weight played a major part in becoming paralysed in the first place. That pug’s weight is not cute. A vet should never have allowed this to happen under her own watch. Pugs are vulnerable as is. These two ladies neglected this pug’s health to the point where it’s irrepairable. Show some responsibility. Admit you should’ve fixed his diet. Or at least say *something* among the lines of “oh we’ll watch his food to take some pressure off his spine and joints”. But no. Nothing. Not a single mention of it.

I know the vets themselves don’t usually reply to our comments or questions…but I do have a question I would like to ask of anyone on this channel who might have an answer? The question: Little Hero, the cutie that had the deformed front leg? They surgically repaired the back leg well & good…but my question is why didn’t they amputate the deformed front leg?? It’s been my experience dogs & even cats can get along very well with only 3 legs! Hero’s front leg wasn’t doing any good at all…in fact, it looked to be in his way & tended to throw him off balance. Anyone???

11:18 them saying that hero cannot walk on three legs is absolutely ridiculous, not only have I seen it but I’ve heard hundreds and tons of different vets on TV shows podcasts and other forms of talking to public that dogs can walk on three legs even if the deformed leg is still on their body, there’s literally no reason for them to say that hero can’t walk the way he is he can and he has been just cause he has to a little hop doesn’t mean that his life is suffering. Literally, he’s doing the same thing that dogs do when they amputate the leg. I even looked it up just to be sure and literally on the kennel club website. It says that dogs can get around with three legs just fine. especially if it’s some thing they’re born with because they don’t know anything different so realistically, they’re making a big deal out of nothing with hero

How can a mobile vet like that drive with a dog like Bear, just lying on the floor? That just seems extremely irresponsible for a vet meant to care for others animals safety. If someone drove my child somewhere without a seatbelt on, they'd never hear the end of it from me. If he is not harnessed and an accident was to occur, it could cause the death of Bear, and whomever else is in the vehicle NOT to mention other drivers as everyone knows "an object in motion remains in motion until acted upon by an outside force", and so Bear would become a VERY large projectile. No?
