I work exclusively with wood but your video was very helpful since I just got a Dremel 111 bit and there's not much information about working with it specifically. 5:54 gave me a very good idea of how to approach. Many thanks!

That's great! Thanks for watching and let me know how things go :) Would love to see what you are working on, even if it is with wood.

I carve deer antler and my most used burr is a tapered cylinder burr because most of the lines are straight and cylindrical around the antler. But after watching this series of videos I and excited to try some new burrs and techniques!

Thanks so much for yet another informative video. I started my obsession with a Dremel carving Garden signs from the off cuts of wood in our Log furniture, mainly the curved cut outs for Rocking chair backs, using mainly Alder the weed trees of our area, which is a wonderful wood to work with. I have always been stuck on the simple ball burr ignoring all the other ones . I have such a stash of new unused shaped burrs that I will have to dust off and try. Awesome !!!
@usskullhunter5 жыл бұрын
Haha that's awesome! Yeah you can def do a lot with a ball burr but maybe now you will give some of the others a go again :D Thanks for watching!

I absolutely LOVE your videos!!!! I got into bone carving a while ago from watching one of your videos and it has been one of my favorite hobbies! I have been making a whole bunch of rings and pendants out of antler, but it's hard because since the antler has a very thin layer of bone before it gets to the marrow, it is difficult to create pendants that are a good thickness. It also limits me on the size because since the antler is curved I have to use the Y part where it branches off since it is more wide. But, it is very uneven in thickness and makes it even harder to make the pendant a good size. I was wondering if you had any tips or knew a certain bone that I could use that is pretty thick and preferably wide. The bone that you show in this video besides the skull looks like it would be pretty good so I was curious about what bone it was and from what animal if you knew. Please let me know when you can!

Hey quick question! I've heard that when cutting bone, you should use water to make sure the dremel doesn't get too hot, or the bone doesn't break, is it different for these types of skulls?
@usskullhunter4 жыл бұрын
Hey Stephanie! Water is not necessary at all. I have been carving for years and never needed it. If cheap diamond dust burrs are used they can heat up and burn but it's not really a huge issue

Love the instructions.. very clear. I have a dremel engraver. Should i be using a different tool for this type of work? Your advice would be appreciated. I live in south africa so may not have access to all your american tools. It feels as though the engraver should be rotating for this type of work. Not just vibrating?
@usskullhunter4 жыл бұрын
Hey Rachel! So you can do some light engraving on skulls with that tool but the cuts will not be as deep as the burrs used in this video.

@@usskullhunter Thank you for your reply. After Lock down I am Going to invest in a dremel stylo 😁 that should do the trick 😉

I love my Dremmel and love finding BONE...recently picked up two Wyoming free range cow skulls and have been looking for something to do with them. What do you do about the residual odor they put off? I’ve only found one resource that recommends paint priming using a pouring method. Would love suggestions so that I could possibly use them as home decor-currently I use animal skulls outside as succulent planters.

hey man i know this is a 4 year old video... hopefully you'll see this... idk if it was covered but what if i want to cut a straight line vertically through the middle of a skull to split in two (i suppose its similar to some of the "beauchene skulls" that are cut in perfect and split into straight lines but thats not what i'm doing) would you use a band saw? to split an entire skull in two?
