Hello all! This is an animatic I made with the thought of, what if Pearl and Blue Pearl had once been friends? Before the war, and before the rebellion.
Pearl wants BP to go with her, but she just can't find it in herself to leave her diamond, or see sense in the rebellion. Still, they both love each other and support their friend's decisions.
I had a lot of fun making this animatic, and started it back in early September last year! I had gone a long time without working on it, and I think you may be able to tell when I started up again lol

Little Snuggle Well, in the actual Broadway performance she's only on wires for the last chorus of the song (starting just before "So if you care to find me," because in the full score the Emerald City guard rush in and start to arrest Galinda, at which point Elphaba rises up into the air and shouts, "It's not her you want; it's me! IT'S MEEEEE!" and then launches into the final chorus). The part of the song before where this video starts is them in the clock tower with Galinda trying to calm Elphaba down and Elphaba saying she won't go back; there is then another dialogue part where Elphaba tries to give herself flight but ends up enchanting a broom instead. Then we get to where the video starts and it's Elphaba trying to convince Galinda to come with her and face the Wizard; Galinda says no; and then the guards come in. So she does get to fly a bit, but only at the end of the song. Most storyboarding/animatics, however, do have her flying around pretty quickly (though that's because they re-imagine it). Look up "Defying Gravity Storyboard" and try to find the one by EatherStar--good example of how most storyboarders seem to choose to do it (since it's easier to play around with her flying in animation than in live action).

This is really emotive and so beautiful, I love this even more that Canon. Because no matter how much you sugarcoat Pearl and Pink relationship, and Pink wanting to save Earth, she never stopped being a servant and a slave to her diamond... But in here, GOSH!!! Pearl is really empowered and really breaking her chains to be her own genuine person/gem who finally serve no one, and that's a really powerful message
