You gotta check out Powell G-Slides. They're super fast on asphalt compared to 99a wheels. My setup is an 8.5 with mellow concave, Indy 149s with Bones hard bushings, and 56mm G-Slides. After watching your series on wheelbase, I put the truck / wheel combo on a deck with a 14" WB, down from 14.25", and it offsets the weight pretty well.

Me person I love Bones Wheels over wheel brand and that’s because of how hard they are. I love the 83b/103A I find it to be smooth, very nice and slidy and it gives me a solid pop to my tricks. I’m not sure if I would like the easy street due to them being softer and probably a reminder of my time with Spitfire wheels which I’ve disliked very much

From my experiences, bones wheels with bones bearings and 10.2mm spacers (Mob) i could crank down the nuts more than with 10mm spacers, and a just a bit less with F4's and 10.2mm spacers. However, i left the bones route because they feel quite harder at the same durometer than F4's and my knees are not comfortable with that at age 44. Sometimes it's as little as rolling in manual off a 10 inch high table/curb hurts my knee on landing with STF and even 1/16" rubber shock pads mounted, while they tolerate this many times in a row with F4's 99ers even without the rubbers. Stuck to F4 for now, no regrets, and they even slide a little bit better than bones 100's.

I skate downhill, and have ridden a few sets of Powell Downhill wheels. For downhill, a low quality core will result in a choppy feeling slide. The Powell wheels I've ridden have all had consistently above average cores. I haven't ridden anything from spitfire, but I can say that Powell/Bones wheels have very good cores.
@starmigo135 жыл бұрын
Could you explain what the is a core and what the issue is about
@grahammcallister31085 жыл бұрын
@@starmigo13 Soft wheels have a separate urethane or plastic piece in the middle of the wheel called the core. On street wheels the core is just the area where the bearings sit. The issue comes from bearings requiring higher precision than some wheels offer. The bearing seats on both sides must be in line, parallel, the right diameter, and the right distance apart. Its easy to fuck this up, and its very noticeable sliding grippy downhill wheels at speed. I have ridden a few sets of Powell downhill wheels and they have all had very good cores. Better than other street wheels, and better than many other soft wheels.
@Sean1Lima5 жыл бұрын
IME, not just Bones, but all SOC wheels seem to have more precise cores than Spitfires. I've been through a few sets of Mini Logos 101A's (and one set of 90A's) and STF's and have always been ables to tighten my axle nuts waaaay down. I did, however, pick up some F4's for my street setup and some 80HD Chargers for cruising and I've noticed that on the F4's my bearings don't sit exactly parallel inside the wheel and the Chargers (which are cored wheels) seem to have been molded with the core slightly off center on at least one of the wheels in the set...
@ashton355 жыл бұрын
I've found that using spacers and washers helps keep speed during turns and riding sideways on inclines.. Sure there's cores that aren't to spec, but you still benefit from using spacers/washers because they remove the possibility of added stress/movement of your bearings

Cranking down on your bearings will cause a lack of spin/wobble on most street wheels, but yeah, bones wheels work best with spacers or builtin bearings
@jwest885 жыл бұрын
I skate formula fours and haven't noticed the issues with the bearing cores. I do like to use spacers and keep my wheels tight, but I do it so that when I land primo I won't grind my axle down at an angle because the nut is as close to flush with the end of the axle as I can get it. I did have a bad experience with flatspotting a set of STFs within a week though (a sizeable one), so am not sure if those are better in that regard or not.

Im very serious with the wheel color so if the new formula of these bones wheel could absorb the color like the F4s do I might spend money on the original STF since I can get rid of color stains or dirts on them
@las10plagas5 жыл бұрын
*YES* I felt like my first (and by now only) set of F4's was wobbly on the inside, after I put in the bearings. I was a bit bummed, because the wheels where a bit expensive and I was low on money but after skating them the first time, I forgot about the wobbliness, until now... I don't use spacers and thighten the nuts, so I think that's why I forgot about it. I had a few tiny chunks blasting out of my spitfires, too but they do not really affect the overall feel of the wheel, either :-) but I think I had that happening to any wheel I skated

yo Ben, I would say if wheels slide better it is of course almost impossible to flatspot them. Because surface the wheels spin as you slide them. And if they slide really good the spin during the slide more. I wheels stick the most likely do not spin when you try to slide them. However, I found it a bot unfair to praise f4 as the best because the do feel quite wobbly and the wear down faster than bones though. Bones wheels slide also but the slide is more manageable I would say than f4's. But bones suck because the core might be accurate or so but the bearings always become loose, so the entire wheel becomes loose. They have both pros and cons but I found the bones still better somehow because spitfires feel like super cheap urethane.

friends, a skate life hack, if you use bearing/wheel spacers, ( that little metal tube in between bearings) the noise goes away and the wheel rolls faster for longer . go test it yourselves havent tried easy streets though, but in all other wheels, using the spacers just made the wheels more silent and aligned, reducing the "geese" noise and strengthening your bearings --ok he mentioned spacers at the end, and its 100% true, just use them, its like only 4 grams extra at most, but way better performance in terms of sound and alignment and reduce axle slips too under extreme circumstances, like hill bombs, bowl or if you skate like a maniac you want em. even if you dont, it makes bearings last longer too, im pretty sure

Okay Ben...what do you think is a wheel that has good grip yet not so soft it feels like rubber balls for skating a Masonite mini ramp. I just got a set of the Bones Skate Park and they are okay but still slide like crazy.

I've noticed that wobbling effect with F4 with spacers, made my OCD all shaky, but I've also noticed that one side of the core on STF's always get looser making the bearing spin without the wheel on all 4 wheels, so I'll stick to spitfire F4, better feeling on the board

The technicality of your vids is what helped me learn fatty to flatty out of a bowl by finding the dream setup

Yes! Spitfire never worked with spacers for me, which is why I don’t use them. I also thought it might’ve been the core not being as precise on spitfire. I love f4 though. Do you use spacers?

I used to crank my wheels down like that because of ace trucks axle slipping. The visual wobble that some wheels have has always bothered me, and yea I think you may be onto something about the accuracy of bones wheels. Oh and a small thing about flatspots, at least for me, I think 90% of the real bad flatspots I've ever gotten were skating somewhere with very, very smooth ground, but lots of tiny little pebbles. It's when the wheel hits a rock, doesn't go over, but it also doesn't stop you and it just drags the wheel.
